i am installing a remote start on a 2001 grand am. i am using a code alarm model 5153 remote start and a flashlogic flcan bypass. it starts fine but i keep setting off the check engine light and cant figure out why. i am using the data wire provided instead of hardwiring it. everything else works except the check engine light. just wondering if anyone has hit this problem before

Can you list your connections to the ingition. Sounds like either something is powered wrong (ing that should be acc or vise versa ) or you didn't power up a wire altogether.

There are multiple ignition and accessory circuits that all need to be powered. Use additional relays to power each circuit.
12volts red + ignition harness
Notes: Remove the radio, without unplugging it, to access the ignition harness.
Starter yellow + ignition harness
Notes: Remove the radio, without unplugging it, to access the ignition harness.
Second Starter N/A
Ignition pink or brown + ignition harness
Notes: Remove the radio, without unplugging it, to access the ignition harness.
Second Ignition dk. green + ignition harness
Notes: Remove the radio, without unplugging it, to access the ignition harness.
Third Ignition N/A
Accessory orange + ignition harness
Notes: Remove the radio, without unplugging it, to access the ignition harness.
Second Accessory brown or pink + ignition harness
Notes: Remove the radio, without unplugging it, to access the ignition harness.

for the ignition i used the 6 pin start harness of the remote start and tied in like this:
purple- starter output motor side to factory yellow starter output at ign cyl
red- battery 12v- red at ign cyl
orange- accessory 1(+)- did not use
pink/white- ign 2- green wire at ign cyl
RED / white- batter 12v to red 12v cyl (same as red wire above)
pink- ignition 1- to pink ign wire at ign cyl

So you didn't connect any of the 3 accessory wires? That could be your problem. All of the above listed wires need to be connected for proper functioning of the remote start. Also make sure to test all of the wires especially since there may be multiple wires of the same color (pink and brown). On many GM vehicles, not connecting the proper ignition circuits can cause damage to the transmission so I wouldn't keep trying it until you have verified by testing and connected all of the above wires.

That is why you need to add an additional relay to trigger the additional accessory wire. Does the unit have any -200ma accessory outputs?
If not, connect the accessory wire to the first accessory and the other through a relay as follows:
Pin 85 to main accessory wire from unit
Pin 86 to ground when running output of unit
Pin 87 to fused 12v constant
Pin 30 to additional accessory wire.
I noticed an error in my last post. I meant to say the 2 accessory wires, not 3.

Is there an install manual for this unit on line? Can't seem to find one to help.

Also check to make sure the pink/white wire is not dropping voltage during crank. As for the accessory wires fixing the issue I can't say for sure, but they will be needed anyways.
