Hi, first post!

I'm a novice, but by no means a newbie at playing with wiring.

I'm having my first go at an alarm, after no amount of cleaning some terrible wiring on the original one that came with my car. (unknown brand)

My car is a 1989 Nissan Skyline (made in Australia)

I'm sure this is not a problem as such, but something I'd like to confirm.



as per attached picture, I can use multiple ignition wires if available.

however, my car has one, and it matches the description of Ignition 2 perfectly.

Do I:

just attach Ignition 1 and ignore Ignition 2?
just attach Ignition 2 and ignore Ignition 1?
attach both?

If I have any other queries, I'll post up, but thus far, this is actually quite fun, I'm enjoying the challenge!

If your car has two Starter wires, then you would want to use the Pink/White programmable output for Starter2 and use the Ignition1 for the cars lone Ignition wire.  You wouldn't want to connect two R/S ignition outputs to one vehicle ignition wire, just like you shouldn't connect one R/S ignition output wire to two vehicle ignition wires.

i was just a bit unsure, as my car's ignition matches the description of ignition two perfectly, unlike ignition one. (as in, no voltage at acc.)

having some fun with the starter relay, i can make it work if i earth it to chassis, kills the starter wire happily until i remove it from the ground.

attach it to the Ground When Armed Output wire, and no dice!

I have the 4 Pin Main Harness, 6 Pin Start Harness & 6 Pin Output Harness attached.

Is there an issue, or is there something else I have not gotten to yet that needs to be attached?

How does the wire you are grounding look when testing with a meter? It's a very unsafe practice to just start grounding random wires. Do you know which terminal of the relay it is or if it even goes to the coil? It's possible you were just causing a short and that the remote start GWA output (200mA max) was not strong enough... in which case you most likely just fried that output.

if i attach the relay to 12v and earth it, it clicks.

if i keep my earth to chassis, and use the 12v from the ignition it works.

now if i replace my home-made earth and use the one on the alarm. it does not work.


and the clinker, i own two of these, if i use the other one, it does work.

so yeah, i guess the output is fried. heaps pleased. two missing looms, a missing DLRKP and now this. i regret ebaying. sincerely.

I'm assuming we are talking about the anti-grind starter cut?
If so stop wasting your time and ours do some homework such as the Security and Convenience Hot Topics and read my post on the subject.
One small clue,
orange to 85
Ignition 1 to 86
Key side to 87a
Starter side to 30 and don't forget the diodes.
By the way if you're from Oz and you aren't Peter (Oldie) then you are a rookie, never known anyone but Oldie with any knowledge on the subject.
Apart from having to run a trunk trigger and possibly install an actuator in the driver's door this car is sooooo easy.

yes i am, the relay works, however not when using the alarm's ground when armed wire.

by using another alarm brain I have for the next car on the list, I worked out the brain itself had an issue and is on the way back for replacement.

not wasting my own time, however if you feel your time is being wasted by answering questions on a forum, then perhaps it would be better used researching exactly what forum's are for?

Yes I am from Aus, No I am not Peter, yes I am a rookie, that is why I am asking questions, but there are more people in this country than your mate Peter, so where he fits into this topic is beyond me.

I'm proud that you feel that wiring an alarm into an 80's Nissan is 'sooooo easy', one day I may even share that feeling, until then, I'm still learning how to wire in an alarm.

I can however tell you, that my knowledge of the ECCS system in this car is quite good, and ditto to wiring a stereo around the common earth speaker system that was deemed ok back then.

Never used a common ground speaker system back then cause they were already using higher power head units and had to have a "floating" low amp/speaker side.
Never seen one on a Nissan except on Maximas with amps for the rear around 92.
I've owned an 88 and a 93 Maxi, had the works, audio, alarms, R/S etc. so I do speak from some authority plus of course, 180s 200s, Skylines etc.
I've seen common NEG speaker wire on very early Golf/Scirocco and ground return on Buick Riviera circa 1972 but NOT Nissan!
And come to think of it I was installing on them back in 1971!
Sorry if I offended you but with Oldspark's honourable exception most Aussies don't seem to know their wicket from their stumps in the auto electrics game, seen it so often.
But you've learned one thing haven't you.

Bet there was no diode on that relay or you connected it around the wrong way and fried that circuit.
