I installed an avital 4113 remote start with Xpresskit DBAll on a 2004 honda civic VP. This was supposed to be a simple install as its only a few wires.

I installed an avital 4113 with XK09 on my wifes xterra 2 weekends ago and it works like a charm so I am semi familiar with this.

My issue is definitely with the DBAll unit. When I go through the procedure to remote start it cranks but does not turn over. If I put the key in the tumbler it starts right up with the remote start.

I am using the DB-ALL- 401.HONDA4 v2.15, when hooking it up I hold the programming button plug in d2d it turns orange, let go it turns red, turn the key to the on position it blinks orange followed by a 3 second solid orange and then turns off, remove the key.

According to the manual this means it has correctly programmed, however it is not working properly.

I am hooking this up with type 3, all wires are hooked up properly and I have reflashed the dball unit. nothing seems to be working.

Any ideas?

the only other questionable wiring hookup is that I saw in someone elses problem was with the second ignition wire which the civic does not have. Here is how I have it hooked up.

➢ Heavy gauge relay wiring diagram   ---> Hooked to Ignition Switch

1   PINK        OUTPUT TO IGNITION ---> Hooked to BLACK / YELLOW
2   PURPLE       OUTPUT TO STARTER ---> Hooked to BLACK/ White
3   ORANGE       OUTPUT TO ACCESSORY ---> Hooked to BLACK/ Red
4   RED HIGH CURRENT 12 INPUT ---> Hooked to White
5   PINK/WHITE   SECOND IGNITION OR ACCESSORY ---> Hooked to WHITE/ Red
6   RED HIGH CURRENT 12V INPUT    ---> Hooked to White

Also after comparing the dash lights when I remote start and remote start with key, I notice that my green key "immobilizer system" light is on when trying it without key.

It is possible the Avital R/S brain is in ESP2 comm mode.  To switch over to DBI D2D comm mode try the following.

Red 4-pin port, Bitwriter/ESP2 or D2D programming
The Red 4-pin plug may be configured as a Bitwriter/ESP2 or D2D port.  The factory default is Bitwriter/ESP2 mode.

To use as D2D mode follow the below steps:
0. Remove all power from the Avital R/S brain.  ( courtesy of Frank AKA shortcircuit161 )
1. Make sure Avital's H1/4 WHITE/ Blue activation wire is grounded.
2. Power the unit up. The system LED flashes for 5 seconds to confirm D2D mode change.
3. Remove the WHITE/ Blue wire from ground.  ( Do this cleanly, without pulsing the WHITE/ Blue wire.)

If that doesn't work, try switching over to W2W mode, it's only three wires.

What is the date code sticker on your 4113, and what type of instruction manuals did it come with?

There should be an "OK" sticker covering one of the screws on the remote starter brain, with a number and a letter. The letter corresponds to the month, and the number is the year.

Also, the installation guide could be a small "book" with staples running through the middle and very detailed installation instructions, or a large heavy piece of paper that folds out, with just a basic description of the wires and programming menu.

The older units, with older date code and the installation "book," had a defective data-to-data port, but the manufacturer apparently decided to ship them out anyway.

Later, they eventually fixed the port, and that's around the same time they came out with the new-style installation guide. There's also a slip of paper in there about this silly workaround with a jumper wire to put the unit between Bitwriter mode and D2D mode.

If it's the older unit, the data port almost certainly won't work.

Why do I get the idea from this Forum that the Avital 4103 and 4113 are units to avoid?

Thanks guys, I activated the d2d and it was already set to the correct mode. Still no go.

I removed the d2d and went w2w and it started right up. Not sure why it doesn't play nice with this make and model. Oh well simple enough.

On a side note how easy did I just make my car to steal? I hooked everything up to make sure it worked and reran my ground wires to make them cleaner. Once the wires made contact they sparked and the car started right up..... Something tells me this shouldn't happen.

Only on first time power up, they used to put a notice on the tin about that.
