I am having issues with my DB-ALL and Smartstart. I have the DB-ALL flashed for my Ram and ticked the Smartstart option as well. The 3x lock is working just fine, however I am unable to get a solid led on the vsm200. I get slow amber flashing and then rapid amber flashing and then back to slow. I followed the directions exactly. I connected the vsm200 to the D2D port of the DB-ALL then connected the 12 pin plug and then the 14 pin plug. Ive tried cutting the brown wire per the vsm200 directions for D2D, Ive tried tying the brown wire into a ground and that does nothing either. Can anyone help me please?

Can the VSM "see" the sky? Preferably high up on the dash with nothing metal above it, e.g. above vents or behind dials.

I haven't tried that yet. I just have it on the floor board in the open where I wouldn't think it would be an issue. I'll give it a try and see if anything changes.

Initial start-up is important in that you should be in a good signal area for GPS etc. But I think you've done that so the fault is elsewhere.

Have to ground gray on smart start to put it in d2d mode.

I don't have a gray loop. Only brown and white.

No one said grey loops. There are a grey wire and a white wire loose coming off the Smartstart, ground the grey.

Guess I cant post links. If you search google images for vsm200, the first photo is what I have.

Two things I can think of off the top of my head, even though I haven't done a rsr with a dball & smartstart yet myself.

1) anytime you change the "loops" meaning cut or join back together you have to power cycle the smartstart to accept the change.
2) the dball has 2 setting that can be set with the data cable or manually with the button. one setting enables smartstart to work, i think the other setting is for the transmitter kits available(xl202).

There is a bad batch of SmartStart modules out there that won't automatically connect to the servers, power cycle the unit,  if the amber light is still flashing after about 15 minutes you will have to call DEI to have them manually force the connection.

Yeah I get the Amber flashing and it doesn't change. Do you have to be a dealer to call them and have them force the connection?

i work for a dealer, so i have no idea.  last time i had that issue they told me they had to force then connection and that it can take 1-3 hours, i asked if they can just exchange it, and they say no that I have to wait for them to try to force the connection, they call back about 2 hours later saying it should be good...it works for less than 24 hours, custy comes back in and they have me do a swap/exchange...so it wouldn't surprise me if it's just a bad unit.

It ended up being a bad unit. Got a brand new one and everything is now fine. Thanks for all the replies.
