ford pats on an 03 mustang

I'm using a DEI 556uw for a remote start system on my girlfriend's 03 Mustang and I have a question which I used to be able to answer but time has erased such memories! LOL

Anyway, if I have a chipped key in the 556uw and the 556uw properly installed in the car, will an unchipped key start the car? My gf only has the chipped key for her car, no extras. I thought maybe that we could save a mint and just get a copy of the key without the chip. Would this work?

I guess the question is, will the unchipped key start the car by using it in the ignition?  If not, might want to consider a PKALL or PKFM. Instructions show only one key needed to program the module. Also Fortin Keyoverride all.

I already have a 556uw. I guess I'll find out tomorrow when I put it in. I'm thinking that an unchipped key will start if the PATS system is receiving the signal from the chipped key in the 556uw. However, I'm now wondering if the signal is only present when you activate the remote start feature on the alarm. If that's the case, then I'll need 2 chipped keys---one for the 556uw and one for everyday use when the car is started without remote start.

The car should only see the key on the box when the remote start is activated if wired properly.      There are ways to do what your asking but why not do it right and get another chipped key made or get a bypass that doesnt lose a key

The 2003 Ford Mustang is a PATS1 system.  You can use a bypass module like the Directed 1100F ( $15 ) as the bypass during a remote start.  It only needs one working key to program.  I believe the PKALL is the same, needing only one key to program.

Additionally, you can use the one factory key and the 1100F bypass module to add / program additional keys.  These Ford transponder keys are available on EBay for less than $10.  You really should have at least two working keys and doing it yourself will save a bunch of money over a trip to the dealer.  The process to add an additional key using one factory key and the bypass module is a little tricky but can be done.  After you have two working keys, you can add more easily.  ( Think the limit is 8 or 10. )

no because the 556 is only sending the signal when you hit the remote start. So if you remote started the car then got in with an unchipped key and inserted and drove it would work . But not for starting. The 556 only sends the signal when you start the car. Its not like an old Vats where you just bypass forever.
