I just installed a avital 4103 in my celica everything works great but when I r/s it then try to turn the key to run position it will grind. I seen something about a relay is needed is this what I need to do or is there a better way

Use a relay. Follow DEI Tech Tip 1077, graciously posted by forum member Howie II.

Do I want a constant power to pin 86 & 87 or switched? And for pin 85 am I using the pink wire from the 4 pin satellite harness from the 4103?

Ok. 2000 Celica needs the Ignition wire isolated. This relay wiring will be for that vehicle with the
Avital 4103 system.

Relay Pin 87a to Celica cut BLACK/ Orange Ignition wire key switch side
Relay Pin 86 and 87 to +12V constant ( BLACK/ Red or White at Celica ignition harness )
Relay Pin 85 to Avital Pink (-) Ignition Output ( thin wire 4 Pin Satellite Harness )
Relay Pin 30 to Celica cut BLACK/ Orange Ignition wire vehicle side

Wired like this, the Avital's heavy Pink Ignition 1 wire won't be used to power the vehicles BLACK/ Orange
Ignition1 wire. It could be used to power the Celica's Ignition2 wire or you could continue to use the
Avital's Pink/White wire ( set to IGN2 ) for the Celica's Ignition2 wire. The relay will allow a normal key
start-up and a remote start-up but will isolate the Celica's IGN1 wire and prevent the starter grind
during key-take-over.

The bottom diagram in TechTip 1077 shows this best. Additionally, I would fuse the relay's +12V
constant power input at 30 Amps.

One last thought and an important one. It would be advisable to add a relay coil quenching diode
to prevent possible damage to the Avital brain. You can obtain a 1N4004 or 1N4007 diode at Radio
Shack and add it to the external relay as shown at the end of this Pictorial Post :

While not mandatory, it is cheap insurance.
