Getting ready to so remote start in a buddy's 2010 fj cruiser. My understanding is I 2010 they went from 29 bit to 80 bit encryption. Everything I read talks about keys it's a . (Dot) being the old style and keys with a G being new style. Both his keys have an L on them. Car is a June 2010 build. Anyone have any input on what setup this is

Haven't seen an L. It shouldnt be 80 bit if it doesnt have a g stamped in to the metal part of the key. HOWEVER if it does have a g it doesnt mean 100% that it is 80 bit just that its an 80 bit capable key and could still be programmed to a 40 bit system.

I was gonna do a dball since it doesn't need firmware flashes to it and since I'm no longer a dealer I can't download firmware. You think dball will work,

Haven't seen one with the "L" key, either, but...
The DB-ALL module usually needs to be flashed with the correct firmware before use.
Think I would go with an iDatalink bypass module on this one. They specifically list the FJ Cruiser with the "L" key and
have the TL4 firmware for it. ( The "G" key uses TL5 firmware.) You should be able to find an on-line seller that will
flash the correct firmware on to the ADS TB module for you prior to shipment. Here is a link to the install guide :

Another possibility is the Fortin EVO-Ride. Fortin only lists the "G" key but perhaps a call to their Tech Support
will confirm that the EVO-Ride ( or even the Key-Override-All with Ver 4.0 and newer firmware ) will handle the "L" key.
These Fortin modules come pre-loaded from the factory.

I have seen the Toyota "L" key on a 2010 Toyota FJ Cruiser. First time I've ever seen one last week. I put a remote start with a ADS idatalink bypass in it. The bypass worked flawlessly so I would also recommend a idatalink bypass.

Just installed remote start in my 2010 FJ with the "L" stamped key. BTW this is also an 80 bit key.
Bottom line, the "L" key 2010 by pass install requires an annoying amount of additional wiring over the "G" key install.
I used the FLCAN (IDatalink) and with the TL4 firmware (flashed myself). It worked like a champ. You should know you'll need to grab wires off the ECU on the passengers side. For me this meant running wires from passenger to driver side so the bypass and remote start could be near each other (used the D2D method).
Another important note........for this particular vehicle the bypass has only one feature, that feature is to allow remote start. Lock, unlock, and anything else you can think of will need to be wired directly (W2W).
Finally, Flashlogic/Idatalink provide good install instructions for the "L" key 2010 FJ.
