I have a 99 Windstar that has the factory keyless entry. It didn't come with any remotes so I ordered a new remote and tried to program it per the instructions. The instructions say to go from off to run 8 times leaving the key in run on the 8th time. I have tried this several times and cannot get the locks to lock/unlock to confirm programming mode. I am wondering if anyone has any ideas for troubleshooting the system. The dealer is absolutely no help unless I want to pay them $63 hr. to diagnose with 1 hour minimum. With help from this site I was able to install a remote start alarm in my grand cherokee so I have some knowledge of vehicle electronics. Also I am hoping someone can tell me how many plugs should be going to the keyless module behind the glovebox. It has 3 slots but only one has a plug. The van has power locks and dual power sliding rear doors if that helps. Also, no keyless pad on door. Thanks in advance for any help!

Where did you order the remote from?

Famous last words. EBAY. What kind of remote start is it?

Its a factory keyless entry system. Remote is OEM 5 button remote brand new. The problem is that the factory keyless entry system on the van will not go into program mode. I am hoping someone can give me some direction as far as troubleshooting factory keyless entry or at least if someone owns or is working on a 99 windstar how many plugs the module behind the glovebox has connected to it. Thanks for any help in advance.

Just wanted to add that it looks like the van had an aftermarket alarm installed at some point. While trying to trace wires I can see that some of the ignition wires and others have been tapped into. I didn't see any cut wires or anything but I'm wondering if they disconnected/cut a wire(s) going to the keyless module. If anyone has any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it.

You could try this procedure. It states to cycle the ignition 5 times. Worth a try.

I have a 2000 Taurus and it is 8 cycles of the key to get to programing. The lock cycle right away on the 8th cycle og the ignition.

Thanks for the info! I've read that also. I tried 8 times, 5 times, and 7 times. Nothing has worked. I think the previous owner either fried or disconnected the keyless module. I wish I could get a diagram of the keyless entry system. Is it possible to have the system deactivated by the dealer like with the automatic locks?
