unlocking all doors with compustar system

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to figure out how to do this and figured I'd check here to see how others have done it.

The car is a 2007 Subaru Impreza and when I bought it, it came with a Compustar CM3000 alarm+start already installed.

Basically what I'm trying to do is give myself the option to unlock all the doors instead of just the driver door. The way it's been installed, they took one of the OEM fobs and just soldered the Compustar outputs to the contacts on the board. Of course, the way the car works with its factory keyless is that it will unlock just the driver door first, and then it unlocks the rest of the doors if you press the button again.

Because the compustar has a 2-way remote, it uses the same button to arm and disarm the system, effectively leaving me with no way to remotely unlock all the doors.

Now, my thinking is that I can use one of the aux outputs and just splice it in with the same output the compustar uses to "press the button" on the fob. Then, theoretically, I could hit the arm/disarm button and then hit the aux button right after if I want the rest of the doors unlocked. Is that a bad idea? Is there a better way?

I can't quite tell how all it was installed, but it appears that they didn't interface it with the locks at all, and just relied on using the OEM fob/keyless system to actuate the door locks as well as disarm the factory security.

I'm not sure if this is relevant or not, but there's also a weird delay when the system is disarming. When I press the button on the fob, I will hear the chirp from the compustar, and then about a second later it will unlock the door. I don't know why that delay is there, but when the system arms, it locks the doors at the same time as the siren chirps.

Not sure exactly what the previous installer did. The only guess I have is that the car has the Factory
Alarm system and the only way to handle that is with the Factory Remotes. But he added another alarm
system... Anyway, the Subaru is probably near the bottom of the Stolen Vehicle List.

Here are some options...

Very Easy Way :
The CM300 install guide is in the Downloads Section. Take a look at Page 5 and the Program Feature 1 - 5.
Setting Double Unlock Pulse to ON will make the Compustar output two .08 second pulses with one press of
the Unlock button. This would happen all the time with no choice or option for the FOB holder, all doors
will unlock all the time.

Easy Way :
There is a Pictorial on the 2003 - 2007 Impreza in the Pictorials Section. You could leave everything the
same and connect an AUX output to the Unlock wire shown in the pictorial. That would give you the normal
drivers door unlock and the option of doing an "unlock all" afterwards.   

Another option :
You could turn off the Factory alarm system ( if equipped ) and rely on the Compustar system ( see Page
2-13 of your Impreza Owners Manual for details). Next, connect the Compustar Unlock output to the wire
shown in the Impreza Pictorial.

Even more fun :
The CM3000 has a Second Unlock Output wire. To use it would require some re-wiring and a different
style of remotes. That could get complicated with an older system like yours.

Hey, thanks for the quick reply. I tried changing it to the double pulse but it didn't have any effect. I also played with the "driver priority unlock" setting but had no luck there either. I'm assuming then that the fob must be connected to the "disarm" output and not the "unlock" output on the Compustar.

Hmm, then I'm torn between just wiring up the unlock wire as you suggest, and tearing out the factory fob, connecting both lines to the lock and unlock wires and forget about the factory antitheft.
