Hi, I have a Directed "DEI ProSecurity SAA998T Programming Tool" with Version 1.5 chip. Will the upgrade V2.9 chip work in my unit and do I need to upgrade the ROM microprocessor too?

Is it possible to flash my current v1.5 chip with the v2.9 firmware if I have an IC programmer?

Thanks in advance...

I have a v2.6 chip that you can have. PM me your address.

Hey antonic, I also just purchased the SAA998T programmer with the Ver 1.5 chip and am planning on upgrading to the 2.9 chip. Did you also need to upgrade the 998M memory module as well for it to work correctly?

I'm not too sure, Smokeman gave me a V2.6 Chip and it worked. Didn't have to change memory module...

Just read that my bitwriter is an old version and it will require both 998M board and 998U EEPROM chip.

More of an FYI than anything.

I picked up the Prosecurity programmer from eBay cheap ($12.99) and it came with v1.5 of the chip. I popped the unit open, and it is the PCB version D806-1.

The unit itself did have a chip in the memory upgrade socket, a Motorola MC68HC711D3 which is a micro controller with 64kb memory.

The memory chip/cpu that was installed was not compatable with the 2.9, so the memory upgrade was required. This info is almost in the PDF linked provided by Antonic, but, with the existing chip, I was not 100% sure if it was going to be required or not.

The Bitwriter with the 2.9 would read my older Sidewinder 6500esp, but, would hang on reading the new 5704v.

Total cost of $34 for a brand new Bitwriter with v2.9 - I'm doing a self install of the 5704v, and wanted to be able to change some of the Bitwriter only options. The 5704v states a minimum of v2.7 for the Bitwriter.

This was my experience, but, YMMV
