I installed an Auto Mate 5304 (same as viper) in a 2011 Kia Forte yesterday. I initially did the factory alarm check by arming with the factory transmitter and then reaching in and manually opening the door. No alarm went off, nor did the dome light come on. This was before anything was taken apart by the way. I repeated the same test by opening another door and both the factory alarm went off and the dome light came on. I took the drivers door pin off the door jamb (similar to the old familiar Toyota pins) and found it had a large metal plate that appeared to be for self grounding. However it also had 2 wires attached that both tested as 12v at all times. I physically traced the wire to the kick panel where direchtechs said to tag it. I verified I was attached to the correct red wire by physically tracing it and pin counting, but it would not respond to being pushed in with or without being attached to the car. I even latched the door mechanism thinking it was ignoring the pin since the door was open. Obviously there was no ground present on any wire at the pin. Does anyone have a further diagram of where the ground input comes from or where the other wire (not red) goes to? Trying to help out a friend here. Also I did check the pin with a DVM and when pressed the two wires have continuity and when the pin is out the wires do not have continuity, so it seems like a simple ground switched circuit... posted_image except it is missing the ground input. Before I cut and supply my own ground I want to make sure there isn't a larger problem with something like the SRS system or something.

Oops I said that backwards... the pin wires have continuity when the pin is not pressed and no continuity when pressed in. Exactly as it should. Sorry for the mix up there. posted_image
