Hi,

I am going to be attempting to install an Avital 4103 in a 1995 Toyota Avalon. After looking over wiring diagrams, and the install guide for the avital unit, I feel confident in wiring everything but the trunk release. My question is do I need a relay to connect the -200ma output from the avital unit to the WHITE/ blue - trunk release wire? Or do I connect it to the - RED / white trunk pin wire? If I need a relay could anyone point me in the right direction as to which type of relay?

The wiring diagram I am going off of is this one:

Sorry if these are obvious questions and thanks for your help.

For most negative trigger trunk release the output from the remote start should be enough to trigger the trunk release , it's easy to test with a test light , one end go the test light should be attached to ground and the other end can momentarily be touched to the trunk release wire ,if the trunk pops you are good to go.

Thank you, is there anyway to test it with a multimeter?

put one probe to ground, one to the (-) trunk release wire, set meter to dc volts, should should about 12 volts at rest and show 0 volts while button is pressed.

Thank you, so if it moves to 0 when the button is pressed, I am safe to splice directly into it with the -200ma output?

Yep. No relay is needed.

Thanks for the help. Sorry for the late reply, I only got a chance to test it today. It starts at 6 volts and moves to 0. Am I still safe with no relay or should I use a relay? Thanks
