New to this forum, glad to find it!

I have a 1998 Subaru Outback with a factory alarm system (and no remotes) which I would like to permanently disable (we really don't need it here on Maui). This alarm system seems possessed, it goes on randomly and often kills the battery at the most inconvenient times.

I read on a UltimateSubaru that I might need to take the ignition wires out of the little black box underneath and solder them directly, but I have no idea to what or where. I tried to just take the box out, and then the fuses, but then it doesn't start at all. Seems like I ought to just be able to unplug the box and replug the wires to where they'd normally go, but I'm not seeing anything that matches the connectors.

Much thanks in advance for any help!
and, mahalo!

I should have mentioned, I noticed that the alarm horn, under the hood, had a broken black wire. So, I snipped the red one too and taped them up. Would these wires be causing the random off/on?

Also, button/light to left of dashboard: does pressing it do anything? Doesn't seem to.

This alarm and battery issue is a real pain because it's my ex and kid using the car and I keep getting yelled at every time this happens, which seems to be every other day. I just want it gone!!

Someone posted this too:
https://www.cars101.com/subaru/keyless.html#code alarm

wherein it says:

"Programming or Overriding the Alarm when you have lost the remote
Open driver's door.
Turn ignition key to 'On'
Press and *hold programming button* in (see diagram, button under dashboard)
After 15 seconds the the door locks will cycle 3 times. Do not release Programming button
Press lock (left) button the remotes to be programmed. The door locks will cycle one time.
Exit programming mode by releasing Programming button under dashboard and turning key to off. "

what I'm not understanding is that second to last line where it says:
"Press lock (left) button the remotes to be programmed."

This reads like a misprint or bad English translation. I thought this was for if the remotes were lost. In any case, do you think they mean to have me press the lock button on the door?https://www.cars101.com/subaru/keyless.html#code alarm
