Ok I have a 2008 jeep wrangler that I have installed a xpresskit dball with the proper T harness on and I also wanted to add the smart start to which from what I understand is easy. I bought the VSS3000 kit from ebay. From what I have read in the instructions and online I can just take the smart start antenna module (DSM 200) and plug it right into the dball and go from there. Well I get the dball flashed, installed, and working perfectly, I then disconnect it to install the smart start and after I get flashing orange lights I get a solid orange only. I log into the installers portal and test the signal strength and all is very good there. From that point I still get no green lights at all on the smart start module, only orange. When I try to test the other options it does nothing. My module does not have the grey wire to ground. It instead has 2 wires, a brown and a white and you are supposed to cut one of them depending on what you want. I cut the brown because I wanted a d2d connection like that manual states. I unplugged everything and reset it and still no green light.

What am I missing here to get this thign to talk to the dball so I can push forward with getting this working?

Whenever you flashed the dball did you turn on the rf output on the dball so it talks to the smartstart ? I think it's the first option, I believe you can also change it while the dball is installed in the vehicle.

I just hooked it back up and looked for something like that and I found nothing. I have 3x lock start and smart start selected on the 2nd option page. Otherwise I cant find anything about that.

I don't have a dball to plug in and flash to see where on the page it's located but in the install guide on page 19, it's feature 1, option 3.

did you use the white plug from the smart start or the brown?

My module (the dsm200) only has one 4 pin plug coming off of it for d2d. It is white. The other plug is just a 2 pin for power but I am not using it because it gets power from the d2d port when plugged in. So to be clear I am using the white plug straight into the d2d port on the dball

You still have to connect the 2 pin red and black wires to +12V and ground.

It specifically states in the directions to NOT so that.

Where does it say it in your guide? On the online install guide there is no where that says not to connect those 2 wires

It states it on pages 9 and 15 clearly in bold print with an exclamation mark next to it for the manual for my application.

I'm so lost. I really wanted this to work.

Which type install are you doing? 3 a, b or c? Was there a remote starter already in the Jeep connected to the DB-ALL?

Since it states to ground the grey wire and you don't have one, maybe the brown should be the (-) ground. I looked at a VSM200 I have on hand and it has a brown and white loop. No Grey.

Did you connect the modules in the specific order stated? Damage to the DB-ALL could occur. Page 15 install guide.

And where does it state to cut a wire. Just wondering. I didn't see it.

EDIT: I see on the SmartStart install guide it states to cut the brown wire for D2D, but I believe that is for connection to a remote start system, not a DB-All.

I took a DB-ALL, 12volt and ground only, and connected it to a VSM200 with the White D2D, grounded the brown wire.
Only got the solid amber light. Unplugged the DB-ALL, grounded the white, got the solid amber and then got a solid green for a moment, then both LEDs flashed a few times, flashing amber, solid amber, no green.
I can only guess since I don't have the proper connections to the vehicle It won't get a solid Green.
I then connected the vsm200 to a bench test Viper unit I have and acquired solid LED on amber and green.
You might have to SWAG it. (Sophisticated, Wild Ass Guess)

Man thank you so much. I am going to try everything that you mentioned when I get home tomorrow and I will report back and let you know what happens. I read to cut the brown loop on another setup sheet for the dsm200 somewhere online. I have been having to piece together info out of several Information pdf files.

Also the jeep does not have a factory remote start and I have followed the instructions to the letter on the connection order. I read the instructions thoroughly before I started this.

Well crap. I tried everything thatyou sai dthat you did and nothing worked. No matter how I had it setup I would get a green light flash and that was it. The orange works perfect every time but the green will only flash once when plugged in and thats it.

Any other ideas?

GOT IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I traced the wires in the extension harness that goes between the smart start and the dball and the transmit and receive wires were not in the same order as they were coming out of the smart start. I used a pic to carefully remove them form the connector and switched them around and BOOM!!!!! its working. All that crap because the wires were flipped around form the factory. Thanks for trying guys but in the end nobody could have figured this out without being here.

By chance was there an addendum leaflet in the smartstart packaging?

So, the wire colors didn't match up at the black connector? Just wondering.

Correct the red and black wires were matched up for power but the blue and green were not. I just didn't catch it until today when I was really looking at everything through a microscope.

I saw no additional reading material in the package mentioning this even being a possibility if that is what you were referring to.
