94 jeep grand cherokee, factory keyless

The wife drives a 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee (ZJ). We bought it used in 2002. It has the factory keyless entry as evidenced by the receiver globe in the headliner console, but there's never been a keyless entry fob.

So I have what might be the worst of two worlds when it comes time to install my remote start and alarm system (just installing for convenience features): A factory keyless entry and possibly alarm, with the need to delete/bypass it, having no remote for it.

How does one verify the factory bit is there, and will this be overcomplicating things?

Shouldn't be a big deal. As long as it has factory power locks, you should be good to go.

To test for a factory alarm :
Start the Jeep with the key.
Roll down the drivers window.
Turn off the Jeep.
Open the drivers door and press the door lock button.
Close the driver door.
Wait two minutes.
Reach in the open window and use the inner door handle to open the driver door.
Any horn beeping?

There is no ignition immobilizer system, so you won't need a bypass module. The power locks are Type A (+), so depending on the
aftermarket system you install, you might need relays or a Directed 451M door lock module to convert polarity.

Going by that info, there is no factory alarm system, making things easier.

There are door lock actuators, so that helps too. (I've been the route of making non-PDL into PDL via adding actuators. Lots of work, that!)
