Man we sure do a lot of these. Man they sure could improve it. We have multiple dealers we install for that want to use the factory remote for both Rs and alarm. 2 of them are Honda dealers, and using the AS9234 in these are a real PITA.Take the Accord STD key for example, arm/disarm/start-no problem but there is no way to get into the car once the car is running. The only solution is to add a relay 5 wire to the disarm wire, then trigger that with the key unlock wire. Why can't AVOX fix this?
A simple solution would be to add a second disarm wire so that we can connect it directly to the key unlock(which is a negative pulse). Another might be a setting to have the unit disarm upon start so that it doesn't trigger when you unlock.
2 times now we have sent non knowing installers out in the field to a Hyundai dealership. 2 times now we have burnt up BCM's due to the fact you cannot connect a relay triggered by the key unlock without damaging it in any Hyundai. Again, a simple change like a separate negative disarm wire would cure this.
AVOX seems to be under the assumption that an FLCAN would do this thru data in both of the cars mentioned and that's just not the case.
Then there's progamming. If i use an FLCAN for arm/disarm pulses there's no way to change program features. The AS9234 doesn't recignize the pulse from a CAN module so you have to plug in the pulse wire plug and tap the red to 12 volts to change settings. Another problem, try getting into programming on a PTS car. You can't get the ignition on fast enough the second time to enter it. I can do it, but it's frustrating as you have to keep hitting the PTS button real fast and hope you get it right.
This unit has been on the market a long time now and i can't believe i'm the first one to tell you this stuff. I've talked the Steve at AVOX about this stuff but he doesn't seem to care. Help us installers out and make some changes...

How would a separate disarm wire help if you are using the OEM remote? The problem is that the factory keyless will not work when the engine is running. Some vehicles have a keyless module that you can disconnect the IGN wire from and the keyless will always work.

We don't need the remote to work and it is quite impossible to make it happen on most new Can Bus cars. The second disarm can be connected to the key unlock wire coming from the drivers door key cylinder. This way they can use the key to get in and that will disarm the AS9234.

Not that you want to switch brands ( and Audiovox does have some nice features ) but with the Compustar CM6x000 unit, you can program any of the unused POC's to Disarm ( or GWR or ACC2, etc ).  Heck, you could program 5 Disarm outputs if you wanted.  All with an easy to connect ( at the antenna end of that harness ) programmer.

I know this post is old, but I ran across it just now. Here is a suggested solution to the door key disarm of an upgrade alarm in a Hyundai.

Per the original post:

The BCM in a Hyundai (particularly newer Hyundai's) uses 10 Volts internally to run the BCM microcontroller. Many of the inputs, including the key cylinder unlock input, go directly to the internal 10V powered logic, with the input floating (pulled up by internal logic) or going to ground. In this case, a relay coil powered by 12 Volts connecting to such an input will fry the BCM (as Mike M2 can attest).

Using a diode in series with the key cylinder unlock wire(band toward the key cylinder) will protect the BCM. The disarm relay can then be connected to the key cylinder between the cylinder and the diode.

Yes this is true, but misses the point of the relay still being needed. We have found the easiest way to do these in Hyundai's is to just have the added relay disarm just before start. We stopped doing it this on Honda's because by turning the door key to lock electronically locks all the doors, thus arming the alarm again. If that happens you have no choice but to trigger the alarm, shut the remote start off by brake and then shut the door and disarm with the remote. Hyundai's don't lock the doors electronically when running so this isn't an issue, but at least it's a solution without having to mess with the key unlock wire at all.
But...you still need an extra relay because of poor design...

No argument there...many of the AVOX designs are almost awesome, but fall just short.   The extra manual alarm disarm input would solve alot of issues. It sounds like the Honda application is really messy if the customer turns the lock the wrong way.   I have only installed upgrades in Toyota's and Hyundai's--Toyota works fine, and Hyundai needs the diode and relay for key cylinder disarm. Just offering an additional alternative for Hyundai applications.

Hopefully AVOX will improve the design in the future.
