1997 mercury sable, remote start

Hey guys i just want to say that this is a great site and i refer to it a good amount of the time. I am not new at electronics, although this is my first remote starter install.

I installed an Avital 4103 Remote Start on a 1997 Mercury Sable
SO here is the problem i am having. After i finished the install everything worked great. The door lock and unlock works. Remote starter, brake kill switch...everything was great.

The next day my girlfriend was driving the car and she said that whenever she applied the brake that the radio and windshield wipers and speedo would stop working. But it would turn back on if you press the remote start button the remote.

So what my question is, is there a wire that senses that the car is on and shuts off the "brain" of the Avital system? I cannot seem to figure this out at all. I will include the wiring that i have completed to help you guys.

        RED / Lt. Green on brake switch

Heavy Gauge Relay 6 pin Connector
1) Output to Primary Ignition Circuit---Pink connected to
      RED / Lt. Green in ignition harness
2) Output to Starter Circuit-----Purple connected to
      RED / Lt.Blue in ignition harness
3) Output to Accessory Circuit-----Orange connected to
     RED / Black in ignition harness
4) (+) High Current 12v Input---------Red connected to
     Lt.GREEN/ Purple in ignition harness
5) Output to Second Ignition/Accessory Circuit-----Pink/White connected to BLACK/ Lt.Green

The guide i used was from another website and it said the tach signal wire could be yellow/white. But the wiring information posted on the12volt.com says i should tap into the yellow/black wire. I switched them and that still didnt fix my problem.

Also in the12volt.com wiring info, it says the Acessory should be on the RED / blue wire...if that is correct that is the same wire as the starter?

If you guys could help me out that would be so great.

Check the car's ignition and accessory fuses (not the remote start's). The car isn't supplying power to those wires if the remote start powers on the dash. If the car can remote start, it's not an issue with the wires that are currently hooked up.

Ok. I will check the fuses. When I hit the remote start button it does power up rhe radio then while driving it kills the radio afteer 12 minutes, then the only way to get it and the wipers to tuen back on is to hit the remote start button. Could this be a problem where the remote starter isn't shutting offonce the key is in the ignition?

The remote start should be shutting off as soon as you press the brake pedal. If not, check the brake wire (the brake shutdown wire).

There is nothing in your car that communicates with the alarm directly. The alarm looks for a couple things that will abort the remote start. The brake pedal is one of them. If it's not shutting down with the brake pedal, this is a problem because someone can just jump in your car and drive away. It's also a problem because if the car is remote started, after 12 minutes, the remote start shuts down. If you don't have the key in the ignition, the car will shut off while you're driving. You don't want that to happen in the middle of an intersection!

The radio, wipers, and dash are often supplied +12V by an accessory or ignition wire. If these things are only powering when you remote start the car, then your car isn't providing the +12V to one of those wires. I would recommend double checking your heavy gauge wires and the car's fuses that handle accessory or ignition.

Wires 4 and 6 on the heavy gauge harness are providing the +12V to your car's accessory and ignition wires. This is why it's only working when it's remote started; it's getting the +12V from a working circuit. When it shuts off, your remote start is no longer providing that +12V to those wires, and your car is supposed to continue providing the +12V to those wires when the key is turned to the ON position.

The symptoms you have explained are inline with a broken wire or blown fuse in your fuse box.
