07 malibu, bulldog rs82b and ibm

Hi guys, I'm trying to install a bulldog security remote car starter in a 2007 chevy malibu. This model requires that the bulldog starter run through an interface bypass module. Bulldog's website claims that the XK09 or DBALL interface bypass modules will work for the car. However, a Directed (XK09 and DBALL manufacturer) tech told me that he did not think the XK09 worked, that the XK09's quality was low and that in varying temperatures it might not start a car because of change in the unit's component resistances, and that I needed the DBALL.

O purchased the XK09 because it was cheaper and the bulldog site said it was compatible. The directed charts have the XK09 listed as "range extender ready" for the malibu, but does not say that it does not work for remote start. I am slightly confused and still wondering if the unit will work. I am ready to return it.

Anyway, Directed will not give support to consumers unless they are professional installers. I think this is crap. So, I'm wondering if anyone has access to REAL wiring diagrams for specific vehicles. I'm also wondering if anyone has had experience with these products. Thanks.

The next problem you might run into is -  the XK09 bypass module must be flashed with the  9.DLPKGM v2.07 firmware to
support your 2007 Malibu.  There should be a sticker on the box or module showing which firmware was flashed at the
factory.  If it is the  9.DLPKGM v2.07, you are all set.  If it isn't, then you will need the XKLoader2 USB cable to flash it.  If you
want to use the XK09 and it isn't flashed with the correct firmware, you could try stopping by a BestBuy and see if they will
flash it for you ( bring doughnuts or coffee ).  

Being as you have chosen the Bulldog RS82B unit that only does a remote start and does not do remote keyless entry or any
alarm functions, the XK09 w/ 9.DLPKGM v2.07 is a bit of overkill.   While you could do the DEI TechTip 1605 on the MUX
wire, you would still need a bypass module.   You could use a DLPK or ADS TBSL PL bypass module instead.

There is a big learning curve on this car.  It is not straight forward / simple.  With the correct bypass module, like the ADS TBSL Pl,

thanks a lot. Will the DBALL unit work? The xk09 unit will work well when flashed? the directed tech rep said its components are made with 20% tolerances. With widely varying temps in ohio the car may sometimes not start because of these cheaper components.

I have the xk09 and have no idea what firmware is on it. I do not think it is the needed firmware. According to the following link the xk09 is not compatible for remote start? Here is the link: I hope it works and brings you guys to where I want it to.

I primarily use iDatalink products and don't have a lot of experiences with the newer Directed / XpressKit stuff.  Going with a "Data" style bypass is usually better in cold climates.  Like I said, I would have no qualms using an ADS TBSL PL on your car.  Typically I install a remote start with keyless entry ( similar to the Bulldog RS1200 units ) and use the ADS DL bypass module.  Never an issue.  The DBALL is supposed to be pretty good and going W2W makes it only better.  Still over-kill for a R/S only unit.

when i click on the function list in the xk09 section it does not list remote start as a function though. Only factory remote start from what I see.

Alright. I looked more at the listings on xpresskit.com. I go to this link: https://www.xpresskit.com/VehicleCompatibility.aspx?p=-1&year=2007&make=Chevrolet&model=Malibu&ps=1&s=&c=5&rs=0 after selecting 2007 chevy malibu. Then in the upper left corner I select that I want a remote start unit. The xk09 disappears. It is still listed under "combo units" when I select that, but what is a combo unit? When I select "remote start ready multi and combo units" the xk09 disappears.

I guess I want definite confirmation that the xk09 would work. Could anyone take a look at the installation PDfs as well? It looks like the DBALL is way less complicated than the xk09, only has like 3 connections to the actual car while the other ones are all to the remote start unit, and doesn't require extra stuff like a SPDT relay. Anyone have more info or input for me?

and what does datat-to-data mean? Does that mean the data of the interface bypass module is communicated with the data portion of the starter? what about wire to wire?
