I have a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited with no factory key fobs. I am installing a Avital 2101L keyless entry, I had removed an avital 4200 remote start so I will be using the DEI 455J that was already there. My question is which of the door lock wires (2101L) do I hook to the 455J?
The DEI 455J has
GREEN (-)lock/(+)unlock and a BLUE (+)lock/(-)unlock.
The Avital 2101L has
GREEN/ BLACK (lock #30 common output)
WHITE/ BLACK (lock #87A normally closed)
VIOLET/BLACK (lock #87 normally open input
BLUE/BLACK (unlock #30 common output)
VIOLET (unlock #87 normally open)
BROWN / BLACK (unlock #87A normally closed)
If anyone is familiar with this setup please help!
Also I was wondering about the horn , the old remote start had the brown horn wire going to the horn wire in the steering column with no relay or anything so I am assuming I can wire the brown horn wire from the 2101L straight to the same place or does the 455J control the horn with the locks?

On the 2101L harness the H1/7 VIOLET/BLACK and the H1/9 VIOLET wires are spliced together with a fuse and come out as one wire that is violet/black. Not sure why, so instead of six different wires for the door locks there are five. If that helps anything.

The 455J does not control the Horn, so connect the 2101's horn output to the Jeep.
I might be looking at a newer / older 455J install guide but here goes. The Avital 2101L has GREEN/ BLACK (lock #30 common output) to 455J GREEN (-) ARM/LOCK INPUT WHITE/ BLACK (lock #87A normally closed) not used VIOLET/BLACK (lock #87 normally open input Chassis ground BLUE/BLACK (unlock #30 common output) to 455J BLUE (-) DISARM/ALL DOOR UNLOCK INPUT VIOLET (unlock #87 normally open) not used BROWN / BLACK (unlock #87A normally closed Chassis ground ------------- Soldering is fun!

THANKS for the quick reply.
I must not have all of the manual but that sounds simple enough but what about the violet/black and violet wires being connected in the harness? Since the violet is not used should I clip the violet to separate them? The connection between them is a factory connection at the in-line fuse.

OOOPS... Sorry, going too fast on that one. This is correct :
GREEN/ BLACK (lock #30 common output) to 455J GREEN (-) ARM/LOCK INPUT WHITE/ BLACK (lock #87A normally closed) not used VIOLET/BLACK (lock #87 normally open input Chassis ground BLUE/BLACK (unlock #30 common output) to 455J BLUE (-) DISARM/ALL DOOR UNLOCK INPUT VIOLET (unlock #87 normally open) Chassis ground BROWN / BLACK (unlock #87A normally closed not used
The Violet and Violet/Black with the fuse stay together and go to Chassis Ground. ------------- Soldering is fun!

Now that makes even more sense. Might take me a day or two to install but I will update you when I do.
THANKS, saved me a huge headache

kreg357, One more question, the 2101L has a RED constant +12v batt and a yellow +12v ignition wire. Do both of those need to be wired or just the RED? I am pretty sure I know all the rest of the wires.

If you want to use the 2101's "ignition controlled door lock and unlock features", you must connect the Yellow wire to the vehicles Ignition wire at the ignition switch harness. The Red has to be connected for the 2101 to work.

Wow. I guess I really didn't understand the installation. That's what I wanted to hear because I like the factory Jeep set up with the doors locking after its in drive and moving better than the locking 3 seconds after starting, I know I can turn that off. The old system was like that and locked my key in while it was running a couple times, only have one key. So I will not be wiring the yellow ignition wire.
All your help is fantastic
Thanks

Do you have the Gray or Black ignition key? If it's Black, there is no transponder system and you can use a plain $1.99 hardware store key. Always best to have a spare or two. Even if it's a Gray transponder key, a plain metal key will open the doors in case of a lock-out. Hide it under the bumper and even if a thief finds it, it won't start the Jeep.

I have the grey key with the transponder. I have seen that others have done that with using a cut key for the doors on jeep forums so that is great advice. I think I will get one or two of the transponder keys from ebay and just have them cut then maybe when and if I can afford to have them programmed later. I like the idea that if a thief gets ahold of the key they cant steal the vehicle.
Thanks again and as soon as the weather warms up to get this system installed I will update on how it went or be asking more questions, sucks not having access to a garage.

Update: I installed the keyless entry system (Avital 2101L/DEI455J)and everything seams to be working except the headlights don't flash on lock and unlock but the parking lights do so I am guessing that it is because I elected not to wire in the WHITE wire for the lights, which I am fine with. However I am having a strange issue, when I lock the door's then unlock and start the vehicle I notice the power mirrors are moved down, I re adjust them then the next time I lock and unlock they are down again, also every once in awhile the power seats with move to the easy exit position then back again when unlocked, I have that setting turned off within the jeeps convenience center, and the seat memory doesn't work properly anymore either. There were no problems like this with the old system, not sure if I did something wrong so I am open to suggestions.
