Subject: astra 4000rs lock unlock not working
Date Posted: January 19, 2014 at 12:50 PM
I installed an Astra 4000RS in a 1998 F150 with no factory door unlock module.
Alarm and remote start are working fine.
I connected the lock wire from the module to the pink / YELLOW wire by the passenger kick panel and the unlock wire to the pink/lt greeen wire in same location. All the instructions and diagrams I can find indicate this is the correct location but it is not working. The locks work fine using the switch in either door.
Any ideas as how to diagnose?

Did you test those wires before connecting them to the alarm?

Those are 5-wire door locks. Do you have them wired for 5-wire or negative for vehicles with keyless entry?

triniforever - The pink / YELLOW and pink/lt green both are showing 12.8 volts. I do not know what else to test.
pts760 - I am not sure how to answer that. All the wiring is the way it came from the factory and the factory switch on both doors works correctly. The instructions that came with the unit say to connect the green wire from the module to the pink / YELLOW wire to lock and the blue wire to the pink/lt green wire to unlock. Is there a link to what you are describing and how would I tell?

If I'm not mistaken every time I do one of those trucks I can never find the lock and unlock wires inside the truck (and I only look under the driver's side dash) but anyway the switch assembly on the driver's door is very easy to pop out and the lock and unlock wire are there and it's very easy to run two wires from the switch inside the vehicle through the rubber grommet between the door and it takes about ten minutes to do .And they are straight negative trigger and can be connected directly to the lock and unlock wires on the alarm without any relays .hope this helps .

Sorry forgot to mention its for trucks that come with factory keyless entry .

This truck does not have factory keyless. Also there is no way to get to anything on the drivers side other than the few wires behing the kick panel. There is a bracket holding the emergency brake covering the entire area.
I am beginning to think this unit is defective. Based on the warranty info provided with the unit it looks like I may be out of luck. The place I bought it from said it had a 1 year warranty but when you get it the book that comes with it says the warranty is only good when an authorized dealer installs it. What a joke.

Those trucks have reverse polarity locks when not equipped with factory keyless entry. Thats why pts760 mentioned 5 wire. That's how you integrate with this type of setup. Hopefully you didn't fry your alarms outputs.
Find your 2 lock wires and cut each one in half you will need two 5 pin automotive relays
Pin 87 and 85 to fused 12v
Pin 86 to lock or unlock output from alarm
Pin 87a to switch side of cut lock wire
Pin 30 to motor side of cut lock wire
The above is assuming your system has negative lock outputs. (Ive never dealt with astra systems)

chev104275 - If that is true then the instructions that came with the alarm and the wiring guide are really wrong. There is no mention of any of this in the installation manual that came with it or the wiring chart for the truck. Also the place I bought it from listed this kit as everything I would need to hook it up. If there had been any mention of having to put in relays I would have just went to the junk yard and bought the factory unlock module that goes under the dash. The remote start and alarm are nice but I really wanted to be able to unlock the door.

F150 LIGHT DUTY 1997-1998
POWER LOCK PINK / YELLOW (TYPE C), See NOTE #3 IN PASSENGER KICK PANEL
POWER UNLOCK PINK/LIGHT GREEN (TYPE C), See NOTE #3 IN PASSENGER KICK PANEL
NOTE #3: If vehicle is equipped with FACTORY KEYLESS ENTRY it is a TYPE "B" Door Locking
System, without FACTORY KEYLESS it is a TYPE "C". Use the DRIVERS SIDE Switch
as the Master Switch when testing.
Type C is refering to reverse polarity
I myself have had 2 of these trucks my old one a 2000 and my current one a 2003
my 2000 had the type C locks which i needed relays for and my 2003 has factory keyless and are type B

The parts you quoted are from the wiring chart I have. I appreciate your help. This is going to take me a little out of my comfort range.
I have a diagram for what I believe to be what you are describing. It shows
a +12v fused line feeding pins 86 and 87 on both relays. What color would this wire be?
It shows the blue wire from the Astra module going to pin 85 on the locking side. I am good with this.
It shows the green wire from the Astra module going to pin 85 on the unlocking side. I am good with this.
It shows a cut on a wire going from the switch to the motor from the lock side. The piece from the switch going to pin 87a on relay 1 and the piece from the motor going to pin 30 on relay 1. Which wire gets the cut?
It shows a cut on a wire going from the switch to the motor from the wire on the unlock side. Same connections as above but on relay 2. Which wire gets this cut?

The diagram you supplied the link for and the diagram I have are similar and I have tried wired both ways and both blow the fuse.
Here is what I have
+12v fused (20A original was 15A) to pins 86 and 86 on Lock Relay and Unlock Relay tapped to BLACK/ white wire in door harness passenger side.
unlock wire from Astra module (Blue) to pin 85 on Unlock Relay
lock wire from Astra module (Green) to pin 85 on Lock Relay
(I also switched the blue and green as shown on another revers polarity diagram. Still blew the fuse)
Cut wire (pink / YELLOW) from door lock switch to pin 87a on Lock Relay.
Cut wire (pink / YELLOW) to motor to pin 30 on Lock Relay.
Cut wire (pink /green) from door lock switch to pin 87a on Unlock relay.
Cut wire (pink /green) from motor to pin 30 on Unlock relay.
I also tried reversing 30 and 87a on each relay.
All configurations blow the fuse.
I noticed on the linked diagram it calls for a 30A fuse. The factory door fuse is 15A should I run a separate 30A fuse. Is there another problem?

What fuse are you blowing ?
Pins 87 and 86 should have 12v
Pin 85 goes to the blue or green from your system.
Pin 87a to Switch side of wire
Pin 30 to motor side
What happens when you use the remote you close termainals 87 and 30 sending 12v to pin 30 going to the motor. while the other relays termainals stay closed pins (87a/30) providing the motor ground.

Got it.
The blue wire from the Astra goes to the Lock Relay
The green wire from the Astra goes to the Unlock Relay
The pink / YELLOW wire from the switch goes to pin 30
The pink / YELLOW wire from the motor goes to pin 87a
same for pink/green.
Now that the wiring is correct it works with the 15A fuse.
