Im installing a Viper 5901 XK09 in a 2011 Mitsubishi Lancer Evo. Its a manual transmission. Im a little confused about the neutral safety switch wire. It says to connect the neutral safety switch wire (BLACK/ white) to the E-brake wire. The XK09 says the handbrake is hooked up in D2D. So do I even hook up the BLACK/ white wire at all? I want everything to properly work.

It should pick it up over D2D. It shouldn't need to be hooked up, but make sure to test it before tacking everything back together. Remote start the car and drop the e-brake and see if it shuts off.

I don't think the handbrake is being picked up in D2D. Neither is the tach wire. Everything else works through D2D like the door locks and doors/trunk/hood. When I try to program the tach wire, it doesn't pick it up. I don't understand why it wont pick up both the handbrake and tach wire through D2D. So I cant get it to remote start. Remote start error is 8 flashes. Should I just hardwire those 2 things? I just don't want to do it for nothing and it doesn't work.

Just noticed that the XK09 on this car doesn't pick up the brake pedal wire (not talking about hand brake)in D2D. So that's probably why it wont start and then hopefully after that I will just need the deal with the tach.

If you're using the virtual tach, programming isn't required. It will learn the tach by remote starting the first time. During the first start, do not disengage the remote start sequence if the car doesn't start the first or second shot. This is normal and part of the learning process.
During the first start, the starter will engage, the motor will try to start, and should start and stay running. If it starts then dies, your issue is with the immobilizer. If it cranks (starter turns the motor) but never runs, your issue is with ignition. But it's best to just try to start it and see what happens.
After the engine starts, you can disengage the remote start and the v. tach is learned.
The quickest way to test the handbrake wire is to hold it to ground. It should be a BLACK/ white wire. Make sure your kill switch is in the ON position too.

Finally got it working. I havent had much time. The problem was that I originally installed the Viper system and never/wanted to hook up the remote start part of the system. So I had to extend wires and figure everything out. But the XK09 definately didnt pick up the handbrake and tach. So I hardwired both of them. The XK09 was flashed back in 2012...maybe earlier. I probably should have checked if they have new firmware for it or tried reflashing the bypass. But I thought of that after I hardwired the tach and handbrake. Oh well....just wanted to give a heads up. You might have to hardwire them or maybr not.
