I am getting ready to install a push button start on my 09 cobalt. I got my button set up from here:

So my current set up is the Viper 5704 Security and r/s system, with Smart start and directed PKE. The guys at Best Buy did a great job on it. They said they could do the PTS button but they got a lil scared and backed out so i decided to take on the task. So I have a basic idea how this will go.
The button will take the place of the ignition cylinder providing the the the ref voltages to the BCM (ACC, IGN ON) and on crank it will drop the 12V on ACC the put it back to run. I will have to install another immobilizer bypass since the DBALL unit running right is in D2D mode and from my understanding, you cannot do D2D and W2W at the same time. So I am looking to get the xpresskit XK06 V.PKG7. I chose this one because all i need is the immobilization.
The game plan right now is to wire the bypass and wire up the module for the PTS kind of like the remote start to the ignition (ACC,IGN)
There is a starter output coming from the module but through reading through this site and other resources I learned cobalts do not use a starter wire to crank.
The PTS module will communicate to the bypass module via GWR.
This particular PTS will work with the viper remote start, but I have yet to figure out the exact setup.
The questions I do have is:
1) the bypass module have an input for a 12v from starter? what is this for. I am trying to figure out will I have to hook up the 12v start out from the module to this. In reality how would the bypass know the Immobilizer needs bypassing?
2) I know that sometime relays are installed when the car do not start upon remote start or cut off for 3 seconds. I am curious to what these do or how they work rather. I do not forsee me needing a relay for this PTS but you never know.
I will also connect the GWR to the bypass
First, it may not seem like a big deal right now to replace your ignition key cylinder with a pushbutton but I can guarantee you that at some point someone will with you didn't do that. The ignition switch should be left as a fail safe in case the aftermarket system develops a problem and can no longer start the car (ie you lose the cards, there is an installation failure, there is a hardware failure, etc).
All OEM pushbutton start systems have fail safes in place that will still allow the car to be started.
Second, you are absolutely crazy to install two security bypasses in one car. Again, this may not seem like a big deal now, but in a year or two when you don't remember exactly what you did and you're trying to get your car to start in a dark parking lot and something isn't working right you'll realize how bad of a decision this was. If your current system won't work because it is D2D rewire it to W2W and then parallel all the control signals.
Simplicity is the "key" in aftermarket electronics!

I guess I should have said this in my original post but yes I will be leaving in the OEM ignition for two reasons.
1) As you said as a backup, I will install a switch that will enable the stock ignition in the even the PTS fail
2) I will have a blank key installed in the ignition in acc to prevent steering wheel lock
I do not want to mess with the best buy install, so I am fine with installing another bypass. In the event of a system fail in a dark parking lot, I will flip the switch, and crank using my car key, which I plan to keep with me as usual.
Plus keeping them seperate i can isolate issues to that particular system if it occours and not void my best buy install warranty.
Oh also I just bought the push to start switch, not the whole advance key security system
