I got a problem with my door locks on a . They stopped working from the door switch, but work from the gear shift when shifting into gear. Also the dome light went out at the same time and the radio went out at the same time as did the glove box light.

I think It happened when I was checking the wiring to the trunk light in the trunk.

I checked all the fuses and circuit breakers and they are all ok.

any master wiring experts got any ideas I could sure use them.

Thanks.

Did you check for a fuse box under the hood?

I looked and did not see a box under the hood. Thanks.

I just pulled them out and eyeballed them. I switched the circuit breakers and even jumped them just now. No deal.

What is strange is for the radio, door locks from the door switch, dome light and glove box light, all unrelated and on different circuits to all go at once.

I have been looking today and see no shorts near the trunk light circuit to cause a short. It is almost like the fuze block took a dump or something.

You need to check them properly with a meter or test light. Just looking at them is not reliable. I'm still thinking you have a blown fuse.

Did you check all the fuses in the fuse box? Or just the ones that seemed to make sense based on how they are labeled? Sometimes older GMs had multiple circuits on the same fuse

I checked the breakers. They are good to go.
I'll check rest tomorrow and see how they check out.
Thanks for checking. I'll report back what I find tomorrow sometime.

I'm in agreement with the others---need to carefully re-check the fuses again.

Also, out of curiosity, check to see if the cigarette lighter works. I wouldn't be at all surprised if it's on the same circuit.

And yes, you should be checking ALL fuses in the car with a multimeter or test light, but if you don't have such testing equipment, be sure to pay extra special attention to any fuses related to the dome light or cigarette lighter. GM often labels these "CTSY" (for courtesy lights) and LTR (for the cigar lighter).

If you don't have equipment to test the fuses, try substitution. For example, verify that your wipers work, then switch the wiper fuse around with another fuse in the car, and try the wipers again.

This will probably only throw more confusion in the mix, but I do recall watching someone diagnose something similar on an early 90s model gm car that had the seat belts attached to the door (not the B-Post as is normal these days). It seemed that the pre-tensioner motor was shorting out and pulling all of those same circuits to ground. Just tossing the info out there and not saying that it is your fix, but if you have that style of seat belt you could try unplugging them and seeing if everything comes back.

The other thing to check on an older car is the door boot wiring. If you bend any piece of metal enough it will break. Wires are no exception.

Good luck! posted_image

Have not had time to check fuzes yet. Did check wipers, work, cigarette lighter works, seat belts indicator engage and and disengage.

The car is not equipped with a trunk latch switch but a wire does go back there. It does not appear to be grounded anyplace visible. I pulled out the connector and it is secure.

The dome light does not work from the interior switch or the map light switch or from any doors ajar.

Thank you each and everyone for your input.

I did do a fuze check. The courtesy light fuze was a bad guy. Everything seems to be working now. Funny, so many things would be attached to one courtesy light, with a 20 amper no less.

The break is verily discernible but the meter does not lie and the proof is in the pudd'n.

Thanks again for all the help given.

Have a grand day.
