5 wire reverse or positive door locks? (keyless)

1st off, i just put an alarm in a 97 chevy cavalier that i was told had 5 wires reverse power door locks...well now, someone told me that it could be that i really have positve door locks, since when i cut the lock wire, the power door lock switch still unlocked...could this be that i really have positve? and if so, how do i check for positive door locks?

i got everything wired and everything works, EXCEPT for the keyless entry...
 
Check this out, i got it wired in the 97 cavalier for 5 wire reverse using the 2 relays, had no trouble finding switched/motor sides of lock/unlock wires...wired it up, used the same +12V constant that i was getting from the ignition harness, fused everything accordingly, got the neg outputs from the alarm going to the right relay pins, but get this, everytime i arm the alarm, the doors r supposed to lock, well they don't, instead, both of the fused wires on the relays (the 3.5 amp fused wires) blow everytime, i tried 3, 5, 10 and 20 amp fuses, same thing, the 1st try on arming it, it blows the fuses, and needless to say kelyess doesn't work....
 
like i said, someone told me to wire it as positve doorlocks using 2 relays, think this will work? let me know what u think is wrong, thanx for listening...

I have the same problem with a 1998 Chevy fullsize truck. The switch works the lock and unlock, hit the remote and it locks, either it blows the fuse and unlock does not work or the fuse blows when you hit unlock. Someone is going to help several people out..Thanks for the help.

Hi padawan, if your vehicle was equipped with a factory keyless entry, they'll be 3 wire positive. If it did not come equipped with a factory keyless entry, they'll be 5 wire alternating positive. If you're blowing fuses when you attempt to lock or unlock with your keyless entry, double check that you have the motor side of the lock and unlock leads going to terminal 30 and not to terminal 87a. If you have the switch side going to terminal 30, they'll blow every time.

Yep, I had positive locks in the cavalier...weird, i wish it was listed in the wiring info that it could be positive and not just 5 wire reverse...anyway, u live and learn, thanx to all who helped...

mikuniman, try to wire ur locks for positive, do it like this:

pins 87 on relays 1 & 2 get +12V fused at 10

pins 85 on relays 1 & 2 get +12V fused at 5

the alarm's (-) lock output goes to pin 86 on relay 1

the alarm's (-) unlock output goes to pin 86 on relay 2

now reconnected the lock/unlock wires in ur truck that u cut for 5 wire reverse, then splice (tap) into them

connect the lock wire to pin 30 of relay 1

connect the unlock wire to pin 30 on relay 2

worked for me, good luck...

I will try this tonight. My buddy thought you just had to splice the blue and white wire into the relays, but I see that it is important to have the switch and motor side on the correct pin on relay. You guys are wonderful..Thanks for the help. This is what I'd call Fun Frustration!!

I couldn't wait went out at lunch and reversed the position on the relay of the blue and white wire. When I swapped them and put in a new fuse the remote will unlock the drivers door-that's it. When I hit the lock on the remote the relay clicks but nothing at the door. Unlock will unlock the drivers door. Soo there is some progress. At least when I go home today I can unlock my door with the remote.

I will try rewiring it like Padawan did on the cavalier and see if this works.

Is there a different or another wire I should be using if I want to lock/unlock both doors at once or should re-wiring it do the trick?

Ur buddy was right, well as far as wiring it in positive....u do just splice into the lock and unlock wires (blue and white)....but if u had them wired on the relays for 5 wire reverse, u would have to reconnect the switch and motor side of the relays , make it one wire again, then splice into it and connect it to the relay....

Well It works now. Finally. I had cut the tan wire instead of the white wire(in the dark it looked white) and that was the reason the remote would only unlock the drivers door. What I ended up doing is switching the pin 85 and 86 around on the 1st relay to match the 2nd relay and everything worked. I did not reconnect the white and blue wires they are still cut and the motor side is on pin 30 etc..All seems to be working I have yet to connect the wires to the horn and siren and lights. I think this is why it keeps going into valet mode after I start the engine. I may try connecting the two blue and white wires back together and slpice into it like you have done to see what the difference is. Now when you hit the lock button on the door it uses the relay to complete the circuit. Just curious now so I will see what happens.

Check this out, everything was working fine until today, went to the car and the alarm was armed but the doors were unlocked, seems the 2 fuses blew out again...

Mind u, it is wiring completely different than 5 wire reverse, it is now wired in positive but the same fuses r blowing out, it'll unlock and disarm fine, and it'll arm fine, but just not lock due to the fuses being blown...why do they keep blowing, could it be a bad ground? let me know, thanx.
