Hi all,

I've a new-to-me 2013 Ford Escape with factory remote start (this is not the Ford dealer installed add-on unit, it's a true factory integrated unit using Ford "My Key" stuff). This means the car has additional features like pushbutton start and true keyless entry (just grab the door handle and it unlocks), and the car "senses" when one of the smart keys is in the car so it can do other stuff with My Key and the memory seats/mirrors.

I miss the 1-mile range of my aftermarket remote start in the old car - it could power through the windows of my workplace and start the car in the farthest corner of the lot, the factory unit does not do this. I don't need alarm or RKE functions - just the long-range remote start.

I think it's a long shot to add a long-range unit to this car - does anyone know if it can be done?

Looks like directed has you covered. You can use a dball or dball2 with the xl202 and remote/antenna kit or smart start.

Dball2
idatalink ads alca
fortin evoall

Just some of the few options for add on range remote start systems. I personally like idatalink and the compustar remotes.

Wow, that looks easy - except for the key2Go part. I won't be able to DIY an installation because that requires dealer access. :-(

It looks like I could DIY with an Omegalink OL-MDB-ALL or iDatalink ADS-ALCA and the RS-FM4 firmware.

It looks like all I need in addition is the USB programmer, a relay, an inverter, and the remote (the OMEGA-CARLINK-3G looks interesting).

Kind of sad - Omega has a plug and play kit for the Escape without push-to-start. Would have been nice to find a T-harness.

I'll note that I can't buy a Compustar remote online. :-(

Hmm, still needs flashing. Does Directed allow end users to sign up as freelance installers?

All you need is a cable to flash. Where in Illinois are you

I'm in the Schaumburg/Hoffman Estates area. I sometimes travel to McHenry, Woodstock, and Harvard.

I'm a bit leery about Directeds version of the phone interface, it seems the service cost is a bit high after the first year.

Still researching the best overall solution for me to pursue..

if you have a regular key, the fortin with a thar-ford1 would work. Just have the seller preflash it for you. As far as RF kits, you should buy this first, then buy your bypass.

Consult a local shop, and see if they can work out the same deal as online.

I am in Lafayette indiana but am in Illinois every few weeks and could do it for you or send a preprogrammed module to you and activate smart start for you

Very easy setup to do

This is done now with a dball and a SmartStart. My tired old posterior will enjoy a prewarmed car once again.

The only lesson learned was to program the dball to the car without the SmartStart module and then to power off the dball and connect the SmartStart.
