I just installed a PS04-G5 remote starter into a 09 rav4. went to test it and here is what happens. push the start button, dash lights activate, doors lock, remote start unit clicks ( positive on starter wire acticvates) then shuts right off. power to start wire only on for a second. then unit stays active without restart attempt. i have checked all wires 6 times now. nothing crossed. all other funtions work, even if I have car running with key I can activate system to remove key.

is it a bad unit? i have no clue what is wrong.

Your vehicle may have a transponder in the key. Did you install a bypass module to interface with it? If you need to confirm it, try inserting the key in the ignition switch, but don't turn it. Try the remote starter. If it starts, you haven't interfaced with the transponder system correctly. This vehicle also has 2 ignitions and 2 starter wires that need to be powered. The 2 starter wires and 2 ignition wires must be isolated correctly.

it does have a transponder key. i did install a bypass. i will try the key test. also i know I do have 2 starter wires but the RS only taps into one. i have starter 1 and 2. 1 is a skinny wire at the switch and 2 is a fat wire at the switch, i have in #1... also i do have 2 igniton wires and both have wires to them. the by pass module is key-override-all.

You must power up both starter wires in the car. They must be isolated with a relay. Use the ground out when running from the remote starter (diode isolate if using the wire for something else)and the starter wire to trigger a relay (terminals 85 and 86). Terminal 30 to fused battery and terminal 87 to the second starter wire.

okay, i will do this. also the bypass mod has a wire - when runnig and the same from RS are connected. do i need to diode isolate that before connecting to relay?
also, thank you for your help.

your unt should have a negative start. use that instead and keep the gwr for bypass

If Ted is correct about the negative starter output, then use it. Otherwise you must isolate the ground out when running wire.

I do see a wire for - to start
so let me make sure i got this right.

rs start wire to start 1 at switch

then rs - to start to relay # 85

# 87 on relay to second start wire at switch

# 30 to 12+ fused

so what wire do i hook up to the #86?

i feel i am missing something.
