Subject: oem alarm goes off after remote start

I've just finished installing a new Viper 5204 remote start/alarm in my 2006 Impreza Sport. When I press the remote start button the car doesn't even crank it just blasts the horn until I turn the key to on then off.

The last thing I did before this issue was ground the neutral safety input to body ground. Before doing that pressing remote start would flash the tail lights with the error code "Neutral safety wire has no ground or the neutral safety switch is Off".

I've tried disabling the built in alarm with the instructions from my manual (same process as here https://www.iwsti.com/forums/gr-ice-security/192320-disabling-factory-alarm.html) but that doesn't seem to change anything, it just beeps once each time with no messages old the odometer.

Followed the wiring diagram, https://images.thesamba.com/vw/gallery/pix/1222053.jpg and this guide for same car different remote, https://www.the12volt.com/installbay/forum_postsm.asp?tid=134600, but this is my first starter and there are a lot of wires that aren't needed for my specific vehicle.

Does any one have any idea why the alarm goes off, why it doesn't crank, or why I can't disable my alarm?

Thanks for any help.

What bypass/interface module are you using? I use Fortin and there's a setting to unlock the car right before RS and then lock it immediately after RS succeeds. That's how it gets around the factory alarm.

I didn't get a bypass because my car doesn't require the transponder key. Some similar Impreza/s do but mine was the last non-transponder year for the Impreza Sport apparently.

I assume this is true because I have no trouble using my standard metal key copy to start the car. Do you think I would still need a bypass?

If your duplicated key is all metal and works fine with the car, then I guess you won't need a bypass. :)

Taking a quick look at the RS manual, it looks like your H2/4 wire can be set to pulse disarm to the car for remote starting. But I'm not really familiar with your car. Maybe someone can else can chime in?

Check 2-13 of this manual for disabling your car's alarm system:

https://techinfo.subaru.com/proxy/69464/pdf/ownerManual/069464_2006_ImprezaWRXSTi/MSA5M0601ASTIS_9.pdf

* It does warn that sometimes only the dealer can do this

Thaks for the PDF. I tried it and I believe I heard two honks, no message, but the OEM alarm system does seem to be disabled. Can't trip it by trying to unlock with physical key anymore.

That didn't change anything though, my horn still goes off and the car still fails to crank on pressing the remote start button.

I did notice this time though, after turning off the alarm by turning the key in the ignition, my viper remote beeps and buzzes like it's alarm is going off. So maybe it's the Viper alarm and not the OEM going off.

Either way neither should be and I may just have to give up and take it to a pro.

Yeah I see that wire but any Impreza digram I find, https://www.the12volt.com/installbay/forum_posts.asp?tid=41034, says the alarm can only be disabled by remote, they don't list a wire.
