In a couple days, I'll install a Viper 5601 combo 1-way alarm/remote start on my own 2008 Honda Civic DX-G, with manual transmission (YES, the Viper 5601 is manual tranny compatible). I'll use a DBALL2 interface/bypass kit (programmed with FW 402.HONDA4 v3.06). I'd like to use mostly D2D. Is the tach signal from the DBALL2 via D2D is reliable enough for remote starting? Or would it be preferable to connect at an injector? I'll also add remote trunk relase; on the DX-G , there's only a trunk release lever/cable, no factory release solenoid. I'll install remote trunk release with a relay and an aftermarket doorlock actuator. I think I figured out most (if not all) connections. It would be nice if someone would check it out and correct me if there's any error. Yes DB-ALL 2 provides adequate tach. Warning the plug you marked green for immobiliser connector, I've also seen it white and black, note sits vertically down (wire side) just inboard of ignition switch. Also double check the wiring colours, pastel colours, very vague as are lock and unlock colours. ------------- Amateurs assume, don't test and have problems; pros test first. Posted By: andreb_666 Date Posted: March 05, 2015 at 12:27 PM Hi Howie,
thanks for your answer. I have another question: I thought about installing a N/O momentary switch to ground on "H1/10 WHITE/ BLUE (-) REMOTE START/ TURBO TIMER ACTIVATION INPUT" and use this instead of the remote during the remote start activation sequence. Would this work? Posted By: howie ll Date Posted: March 05, 2015 at 12:30 PM Yes but why?
You still have to unlock the steering. ------------- Amateurs assume, don't test and have problems; pros test first. I am not a free install service. Posted By: kreg357 Date Posted: March 05, 2015 at 12:38 PM Yes, if you set reservation mode first and could reach the switch without opening any doors... Manual Transmission Mode adds some complications. Remember that you must run in Tach Mode if used on a manual trans mission vehicle ( MT Mode ). ------------- Soldering is fun! Posted By: andreb_666 Date Posted: March 05, 2015 at 12:58 PM Oops I think I wasn't really clear in my explanations. Because it's installed in a manual car, I have a couple steps to do before I leave the car for the next remote startup
From the 5601 owner manual: Manual transmission vehicles If the vehicle has manual transmission the proper steps must be followed before leaving the parked vehicle or the remote start feature is disabled. 1. Put the transmission in neutral. 2. Press on the vehicle’s foot brake. 3. Apply the emergency brake. 4. Release the vehicle’s foot brake. Note: Pressing the brake again after this step will disable the remote start feature. 5. Within 15 seconds activate the remote start from the remote. (I'd use, if possible, the momentary switch for this step instead of reaching the remote and try to push a button with my fat fingers ) 6. The parking lights will flash 5 times confirming that the remote start is active. 7. Turn off the ignition (the car should stay running when key is turned off). 8. Exit the vehicle and close the door. 9. Arm the alarm (the vehicle should shut off when arming the system). You can now remote start the vehicle. If a door is opened or if the alarm is triggered before the next remote start activation the system will not remote start. ----- But as I write this, I might found answer to my question in the chapter about the "Turbo Timer Mode" : "When the vehicle is running follow the procedures listed above, but instead of pressing the remote, press the push button the appropriate number of times to activate the remote start (factory setting is for 1 pulse). Turn off the ignition and exit the vehicle. The car remains running for the pre-programmed amount of time." --- I guess I'll give it a try, it wont harm anything if it doesn't work Thanks for the reminder Kreg, I had it writen down but forgot to tell about it in my first post Posted By: andreb_666 Date Posted: November 28, 2015 at 8:48 PM I finally got some spare time and did install the Viper 5601 in my '08 Civic!
Everything went fine, found every needed connections. I only made one mistake; I accidentally inverted the purple and the green starter output wires... Also, I had to connect the tach signal's input from the 5601 to one of the coils; the 5601 didn't get the tach signal from the dball2 (d2d). I made sure everything works fine today, tomorrow I'll clean up the wiring, wrap everything up and enjoy! Thanks Kreg and Howie for your help! BTW, where do you mount the brain on these cars? right beside the MICU/Fusebox? Posted By: howie ll Date Posted: November 29, 2015 at 4:19 AM On the Euro versions of that vintage, pop the instrument panel and go behind, dead simple and makes for a very neat install.
