I have a viper 791 (I know...I need a new truck) that was installed in 2004. I've replaced the remotes a few times (swimming pool, etc). The current remote is only two years or so old. The remote beeps as tho I'm out of range when I try to lock/unlock. I tried to relearn (door open, key on, program button pushed then pushed again and held)....but the remote just beeps, should I assume bad remote and replace? I'd rather not replace only to find a bigger problem

Can you open it, and check the solder joints on the 2 connectors that mate the two boards together. Very common to see them break.

Also try unplugging the antenna and then plug it back in, the antennas also "lock up".
