Hello everyone,
I just had my side lights stolen off my truck while it was parked on the street. They just pulled them out and unplugged them. I have a two-way alarm system, but there wasn't enough shock to set it off.
Does anyone have experience/ thoughts/ suggestions on alarming individual pieces on cars that are not protected by the shock sensor?
I'm thinking about using a clothes pin tripwire setup and connecting it to the hood plunger switch, but I wanted to reach out to the internet first to find a better idea.

If your "side lights" require screws, use tamper-resistant screws.
If it only pops off, then I would suggest fabbing a way to bolting the lights down internally. I would hate to rely on a sensor of some sort, which may cause false-triggers.

There are no screws, just compression tabs. I am afraid to secure them from the inside, because the thieves wouldn't see that and would try to force them, scratching my paint and possibly braking them.
False-triggers would be a problem in that area, but I believe this problem could be engineered out.

Micro switches or fab a hood switch behind.
You'll need a plastic box for the switch otherwise it will corrode in weeks.

Dail in a motion sensor that would trigger the alarm when someone gets close to the light(s).

DEI Closed Loop Sensor, run a small loop thru it, loop breaks... Boom

I researched the proximity motion sensor, I dont think that would function well because of people passing in parking lots and on the street. It would be alarming every 5 minutes.
I'm looking into the micro switch and the magnetic switch options. maybe I can find two shock sensors and glue them to the back of the light assembly. Whichever is cheaper will be the winner, something functional and prevents this from happening again.

A trunk monkey would work well, I can't seem to find a reliable one though. They keep escaping or succumb to the climate inside the trunk.

I've tried this method. One day my ex-gf went to get something from the trunk. Monkey jumped out and ate her face. This happened, of course, in Florida. So your state/continent might be more monkey friendly.
