I have installed a new (but old) remote start. I have installed at least a dozen remote starts.

My install uses a remote start module + dball.

My issue is that it fails to detect engine running. The starter remains engage a few seconds after the engine is actually running. A second or two after disengaging (giving up) the engine shuts off (remote start releases ignition relays).

I monitor the DBALL LED and it flashes appropriate colors for normal startup conditions.

I have used a tach wire. I measure the AC voltage and at minimum it is 1.5 volts. Install manual says between 1 and 6 volts. The signal varies with RPM.

The module will use voltage sense and tach. I am not sure how it decides. But I feel that my alternator is putting out a little on the low side (13.3).

Is the voltage low enough to:

a) not be recognized by the remote start module as "running"?
b) not provide a sufficient tach signal voltage?
c) make the remote start module fail slightly as to not recognize either?

Did you program the tach? Just because you hooked up the tach wire means nothing unless the RS brain is programmed. Otherwise it will try and use its built in virtual tach...also the value of your ac tach will increase as you press on the accelerator...

Thanks. I have read the minimal manual included with this unit and I cannot for the life of me see any what to program the Tach. Using the included manual, it would appear that you can either a) wrap the wire around one of the spark plug wires, or connect to the tach signal. I'm beginning to think the input on the module itself might not be functional. I really don't know.

For anyone else that might be following, the unit is a RadioStart Generations RS0591. Not well supported from what I can see.

The model is actually RSA0591.
