I installed an Ultra Start 4265A into my 2004 F150 new style this weekend. It was replacing the Ford factory one that was installed when I bought the truck. (The Ford one was Deluxe keyless entry and remote start). I discovered why the Ford one wasn't working when I removed it, but that is a story for another day.

I have run into 2 issues after my install I was hoping someone might have an idea on.

I was able to learn the tach for the new starter, but when I try to start it, it powers everything up for 5 to 10 seconds then powers off and gives the 7 flash code (Tach Lockout), subsequent attempts to start result in just the 7 flashes (no power attempts). Any ideas where to look to see why it isn't engaging the starter?

The other issue I had was with my illuminated entry. When I unlock the doors with the factory fob, my dome and bed lights all come on, they turn off when I lock it with the factory fob. The horn also sounds when doing a double lock with the factory fob. When I use the remote starters remote, the doors lock and unlock fine, but the dome lights don't come on.

On the old Ford remote starter, they had the Door Ajar Switch Input and Dome Light Output (both positive) tied to the dome light positive wire in the truck. They also had the Arm Input tied to the lock motor (positive) and the disarm input tied to the drivers door unlock motor (positive)

The ultra start only has arm and rearm outputs (negative, 250ma), and selectable door pin inputs (positive or negative). I am not seeing a way to get the lights to come on, obviously triggering the power door locks isn't enough, is there something I am missing?

Thanks

I would something like a Pac tr7 timer to activate the dome lights. Trigger the timer from the unlock of the ultra start

For the no start issue, think I would try a Factory Reset on the Ultra Start controller.  You won't loose the remotes and the Flex Relay
programming will stay the same but you will have to re-program any other changes made.  Verify your Tach connection ( F.I.'s seem
to work best on Fords ) and then just start the truck with the key.  It should do the Tach learn and signal the results via the Parking
Lights automatically.

I had already done the reset and relearn on the controller, it indicated it successfully learned the tach, but still did not crank and then went into tach lockout mode.

The only things I can think it might be is that the starter wire from the RS unit is hooked to the wrong side of the cut starter wire, or since I don't have any of the door pin input hooked up, maybe it won't start.

If the Ultra Start didn't see the Starter wire go to +12V after a Factory Reset it would not go into the Tach Learn routine and indicate a
successful Tach Learn.  What are you using as a Tach source?

Well if I did hook it up backwards, it would see the 12V because the circuit would still be complete when starting with the key, the system does show a successful tach learn, and tries to start, but doesn't actually engage the starter.

I am going to verify all my wiring again. Just have to wait for the snow/rain mix to stop.

The tach source I am using is an ignition coil.

I had another question about the door pin inputs. I notice on the factory Ford one, Ford shows to hook the door ajar switch input up to the dome light output wire.

Is that an acceptable way to wire the door pin sensors without having to diode isolate all of the doors?

I see no mention of transponder integration module. That truck does have a chip in the key, how are you bypassing the transponder?

I am using a Ford Securilock interface kit, PN 1L2Z-19G365-AB

It was what the old remote start unit was using as well.

I am going to try to reprogram it, in case it is the issue. I will also pay more attention to the PATS status light when the rmst tries to start.

Well it was the transponder bypass. Apparently my transponder had lost its code, I guess I had one of the trucks with the starter disable.

And in case someone comes across this looking into the illuminated entry, I found a solution.

The trunk release on this model can also be used as an aux output. So I can use a relay to the parking light wire and power the dome circuit. It can be programmed to output for 30 seconds when unlock is pressed.

Thanks for everyone's help
