Just had the above alarm fitted to my 2008 ford transit, it's an add on alarm so is armed and disarmed by using the transits remote locking key fob. However if you unlock the drivers door with the key this also disarms the alarm.
Due to the ease of which the transit door lock can be picked using a cheap tool, this is really something I could do with altering if possible.
The alarm disarm is obviously wired to the transit "unlock" wire to the door motors but would there be a different trigger I could use to disarm ? One which by using the key wouldn't disarm the system?
Thanks in advance.

Why we don't install add-ons I'm afraid.
------------- Amateurs assume, don't test and have problems; pros test first. I am not a free install service.

Emailed cobra and they were really helpful and responded straight away, said I need to connect the PURPLE / black inhibit wire on alarm loom to the wire that goes negative pulse when key is turned to unlock the door. So hopefully this will make it disarm from the fob only.

Remove glove box, look to top left of fuse/body control module.
Black 40 pin quadlock plug, i.e. plug has a bar which you move to unlock it.
Pin 16 blue. If your doors are locked, earthing this wire will unlock the front doors.
Caution. It's a pig to get at and if my memory serves me correctly there's more than one blue wire, I had to strip the connector from the plug casing and read the pin numbers with a magnifying glass.

That's a great help, cobra did send me the wiring diagram but the guy who installed it said the way it's working is how it is as the alarm is designed to rearm if the van auto locks, but these locks can be picked the n seconds.
I've sent him Cobras reply and he says that should overcome the issue and will come back and alter it for £20.
If I do it myself could I use my meter on continuity setting with the buzzer and put one lead to a known earth and probe the blue wire with the other test cable and listen for the beep when I unlock with key,or is there a more reliable/easier method..test light etc ?

Yes, on that vehicle a test light Snap-On etc. Must have an incandescent bulb, not LED the bulb acts as a buffer if you hit the wrong wire.
Ground one end of test light, there's a grounding point to the left (if right hand drive) at the side, other end to wire it will unlock the front doors.
Frankly for what's involved I'd pay the £20 although if it were me I wouldn't charge for it.
Again why I never install them.

I did explain that I didn't want it disarming from the door lock, but after he'd fitted it,he said unfortunately it was.
I gave him the vehicle specific diagram from cobra which shows the violet/black connected to blue loom wire but think he must have just used his own diagram which must have been different.
He spoke to cobra technical which said omitting door lock disarming couldn't be done, but I know of an identical van and alarm on which the door lock doesn't disarm,so emailed cobra myself who suggested the above connection.
So what exactly does the inhibit wire do to over ride the door lock disarming the system ?
