I have an Avital 5303 in our 2000 Subaru outback. Recently I've noticed that I've lost most range for the remote. You pretty much have to be within 10' for the remote to work.

I haven't dug into it yet, but suspect a faulty antenna, or cable. I installed a Whistler Pro 3600 remote radar detector, and had to route the cable up the A pillar, disturbing the antenna cable while doing it.

To my surprise, the antenna replacement cost is almost half of what a complete new 5303 costs???

Is there a place to purchase the replacement antenna that is more reasonable?

Hi,
Maybe antenna cable is disturbed causing poor connection? I don't suppose radar detector is interfering with remote. And fob battery
is good too. Yes, RF kit costs more than the brain module. Some times
you can have luck finding antenna parts on eBay. I always use Compustar 2 way SS FM RF kit. I just got a new Subie Forester XT, I am installing remote kit this coming week end.
