Hi, I was wondering if anyone could help me out that may be familiar with the 4105 Viper system... I'm trying to install simply the keyless entry portion, with no horn/lights/remote start/etc.

I looked at the diagram and see a 9 pin 'main harness' on the viper, there's Pin 8/BLACK/ Ground, and a 3 pin door lock connector on the viper with a Blue(-)Unlock and Green(+)Lock, but which viper harness wires would be used for constant(battery) +12 and accessory(ignition) +12?

There are some other harnesses marked 'remote start' and a satellite 4 pin harness...but I don't see anything simply marked as these like I typically do from the quick reference install guides.

Only other item I'll need to sort out is the 1 pin lock/unlock on the Rover, I'm not looking to keep the factory alarm, so i'm not concerned about setting/disarming that unless it's required for the lock operation.

Thanks,
Pete

Here's some detail on the existing harnesses on the viper and possible connection points for this one function...

Viper main harness, 9 pin connector
1 Lt GREEN/ black (-) factory alarm disarm.
2 grn/white.       (-) fact alarm rearm.
3 yellow. (+) ignition out (to alarm)
4 WHITE/ blue.      (-) activation input.
5 orange. (-) ground when locked/anti grind.
6 brown (-) horn out.
7 RED / white.       (-) trunk release.
8 black. Ground. **Ground
9 white.  (+/-) light flash output.

Viper door lock 3 pin
1 blue. (-) unlock. **To Rover central lock wire..diode?
2 blank
3 green.  (-) lock. **To Rover central lock Wire..diode?

Viper remote start 6 pin
1 red.    (+)(30a) high current 12v input. ** To Constant 12v?
2 pink/white. Output to 2nd inhibition/acc circuit.
3 red.    (+)(30a) high current 12v input.
4 orange. Output to acc circuit.
5 purple. Output to starter.
6 pink.   Output to primary ingnition.

Satellite harness 4 pin
Omit most likely?

Remote start 5 pin
1 BLACK/ white. (-) neutral safety input.
2 viloet/white tach.
3 brown.       (+) brake shutdown input.
4 gray.        (-) hood pin switch.
5 blue/white. (-) defogger.

Bypass etc? Electrics are identical to contemporary Volvo XC60/90 .

Thanks for that link! - that's very helpful for the vehicle side, but I'm not clear on the viper side on that second post.. which specific ones are needed for constant and ignition power? (if ignition is even needed for a keyless only setup?)

Have you even read the link you were given?

Sorry, I should have read your first post.
On the six pin, only the PINK ignition VERY VERY important to connect it.
By the way if you're only doing keyless, why not a DEI 211 or similar K/E only?
Much cheaper.

Thanks - Yeah, it's super cold at the moment, and I'm in a bit of a hurry to get this in so we can lock the doors again :) My goal is to perhaps get the remote start going at a later date, but for $58 and the nicer remotes/range, I thought it would be good to work with. The complexity of the extra stuff is sorta complicating matters, though.

So you're saying the pink on the viper (ignition output) is actually the ignition on +12v supply? Wouldn't I still need a battery sourced 12v to power things....perhaps one of the red connections?

Hmm... so far so good, but the locks only lock with the remote. they wont unlock. When you press lock or unlock with the remote, it locks the doors and flashes the hazard.

Currently I have:

Viper main harness, 9 pin connector
1 Lt GREEN/ black (-) factory alarm disarm. NOT CONNECTED
2 grn/white.       (-) fact alarm rearm. NOT CONNECTED
3 yellow. (+) ignition out (to alarm) NOT CONNECTED
4 WHITE/ blue.      (-) activation input. NOT CONNECTED
5 orange. (-) ground when locked/anti grind. NOT CONNECTED
6 brown (-) horn out. NOT CONNECTED
7 RED / white.       (-) trunk release. NOT CONNECTED
8 black. Ground. Connected to Ground
9 white.  (+/-) light flash output. Connected to Hazard circuit

Viper door lock 3 pin
1 blue. (-) unlock. **To Rover central Unlock wire
2 blank
3 green.  (-) lock. **To Rover central Lock wire

Viper remote start 6 pin
1 red.    (+)(30a) high current 12v input. ** To Battery 12v
2 pink/white. Output to 2nd inhibition/acc circuit. NOT CONNECTED
3 red.    (+)(30a) high current 12v input. NOT CONNECTED
4 orange. Output to acc circuit. NOT CONNECTED
5 purple. Output to starter. NOT CONNECTED
6 pink.   Output to primary ingnition. NOT CONNECTED

Satellite harness 4 pin
NOT CONNECTED

Remote start 5 pin
1 BLACK/ white. (-) neutral safety input. NOT CONNECTED
2 viloet/white tach. NOT CONNECTED
3 brown.       (+) brake shutdown input. NOT CONNECTED
4 gray.        (-) hood pin switch. NOT CONNECTED
5 blue/white. (-) defogger. NOT CONNECTED

Well, you connected the white parking light output to the hazard lights, so that's why they flash. I'm not sure if that was intentional or not.

What color are the vehicle wires you connected to the lock and unlock, and where are they?

Did you test them first?

Yes, I wanted the lights to flash when lock/unlocked...so that's working as intended.

The only part that isn't working is the locks lock when I push unlock, or lock when I push lock..it's like it's doing the same thing. I'm connecting to the correct vehicle wires, as the wires go straight to a central lock/unlock button on the dash. Unlock is yellow/pink on the truck, and lock is pink/red.

I'm simply doing keyless entry - no alarm/etc. The central lock switch on the dash (a two way rocker) locks and unlocks properly, and it uses these same two wires in its connector, so it seems like i'm sending the wrong signal...

Is there a factory alarm?

You may have to do it through the factory alarm arm/disarm wires.

There's a factory alarm but since i'm not arming/disarming it with the viper, it's staying disarmed (I'm basically replacing the functionality of the central lock switch on the dash, which doesn't arm the vehicle.

I've read a lot of posts saying this is Type this or Type That, I might need relays, I shouldn't need anything extra, some that say I need diodes on the lock lines...just trying to figure out how I determine how to test this out. I only have 5 wires connected on the viper side, so it shouldn't be too complicated (ground, 12v, light flash, then unlock/lock).

Try a double pulse for UNLOCK.

Also try the RKE with the dash switch disconnected.

Lock systems can be mysterious the way they are triggered. There are LOTS of different strategies. I just took a quick look at 4 Range Rover diagrams in about your year and found 4 different wire colors and descriptions. Very confusing.

You're probably going to have to test the wires at the switch, and figure out WHAT the signal is. Test each wire to both voltage and ground in both LOCK and UNLOCK. That's 8 individual possibilities. Then figure out how to replicate that. Usually with relays. Because there are 2 wires, I doubt there is a resistance involved. But I'm just taking educated guesses, I'm not personally familiar with your LR.

OK, throw over latch at rear of door then lock it by grounding it.
A) Once locked, cut the wire. This might unlock it.
If not with wire cut,
B) Connect DMM probes to either end, set range to 2 kR and lock and unlock manually you should get a zero reading for lock and for example 600R on unlock.
Now go to the lock section on this site look at 1 wire and multiplex locking.
A = 1 wire.
B = M/plex resistive.

I don't either. I can go back to early 90's on Range Rovers and they never used one wire.
It was just a thought. That year they were Ford with lots of Volvo wiring.
