Hello,

I am new to the forum as this was my first install of a Dball2 and I am having a strange problem after installing it with an XL202 and Viper 9856V pack in a 2006 Chevy Cobalt.

I recently installed a Dball2 with the XL202 in a 2006 Chevy Cobalt for use as a remote starter since this year, make and model is RSR. The car has no automatic door locks or windows and therefore has no factory key fob. I bought a Viper 9856V pack to use with the XL202. I installed the Dball2 using the wiring diagram from Directechs for the specific year, make and model.

The car starts fine with the remote start but when I put the key in the ignition, turn it to the run position and hit the brake it does not disengage the remote start portion. I can hit the brake with no key in the ignition and the car will not turn off. I can put the key in the ignition and turn the key to run, press the remote start button to disengage the remote start and the car will continue to run. It is also odd that I can put the car in gear with no key in the ignition. Otherwise after remote starting the car and turning the key to the run position and driving, it seems the remote start disengages shortly after before hitting the 15min shutdown, and the car continues to run fine. The vehicle theft deterrent light continues to blink even though the key is in the ignition.

What may I have forgot to connect or did not connect right that would cause the car to not turn off when the brake is pressed? The diagram did not call for a brake wire at all.

Also when programming the Dball2 I switch the ignition to the start position to wait for the light to flash green before I turn the key back to run for a flashing orange like the instructions say. After turning the key to start, the green light comes on for about 2 seconds and turns off indicating it was programmed successfully. It does not indicate any other lights when I continue the programming instructions for steps 4,5 and 6.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thank you.

After reading the programing instruction for the DBALL, it sound like it is not programed properly. Is it possible the DBALL is flashed with the wrong firmware? Your description of successful programming is very close to the STANDARD INSTALL, Type 1.

I have never done a Cobalt, or a RSR, XL202. Just going by the info you provided and the three different DBALL set ups.

That you can shift the car into gear without a key, that might be an entirely separate issue.

Thank you for the response.

I had a feeling it may be the firmware but figured I would ask all the experts first, as I don't have an XKLoader2. I had taken the modules to Frys to be flashed and after telling the man what I wanted, it was apparent he did not know what he was doing. He handed my modules back after flashing them and said "I think I got it." I was hoping to avoid ordering an XKLoader2 just to flash two modules. Unfortunately I just ended up ordering one to make certain myself that these are flashed with the right firmware.

I will respond if the firmware was the issue as soon as I receive the XKLoader.

Thanks again.
