Hi everyone,

I installed an Avital 4103LX remote start in my 92' accord. I did not run a tach wire, so I'm using virtual tach.

On cold mornings, the crank time is too short. It will start on it's second attempt, which is not a huge problem. The crank time is perfect once engine is warm.

My question is, does the virtual tach shut down the starter? If I increase crank time for cold starts, I'm worried that it will over crank once warm.

The tach wire is very easy to access on that car you dont you connect it ? Or you can change engine sensing to voltage sense and increase the crank time to 0.8 sec which is a lot better than virtual tach.

I did not connect the tach wire. If I can easily find that wire under the dash I may consider hooking it up.

So you recommend changing virtual tach to voltage (Menu 2 feature 1)? Also bump up crank time from .6 to .8sec?

Sounds like both virtual tach and voltage do not kill the starter. It still will crank for programmed time.

Does anyone know if I can find the tach wire under dash? Or do I have to run it to the distributor?

Virtual tach is a lot less reliable than voltage sense where the brain senses the increase in voltage when the car starts and disengages the starter, virtual tach is kinda like the remote start guess when the car starts and then disengages the starter and its not very reliable in cold weather. And i dont think ive ever found the tach wire on that car under the dash i might be wrong.

Are you telling me that in voltage mode, the starter will disengage when voltage increase is detected? On page 38 of the manual it states that it cranks for programmed amount of time. It does not state that it will kill the starter with voltage increase.

The manual should be a little more descriptive IMHO.

Yes the starter will disengage will voltage sense .

OK, thanks. I'll give it a shot.

The OP is correct. It does not stop cranking when it detects a voltage rise.

It cranks for the programed duration. Then a few seconds after it quits cranking, if it doesn't detect a voltage rise it shuts off the ignition because it 'failed to start'. DEI's make 3 attempts to start.

I know some CS130 GM alternators have an alternator regulator that doesn't 'turn on' until 10 seconds after engine start. This would be problematic with Voltage Sensing.

Tach will be blue wire at instrument cluster.

Amateurs assume, don't test and have problems; pros test first. I am not a free install service.
Read the installation manual, do a search here or online for your vehicle wiring before posting.

Another question:

How do you toggle through the feature options? As I understand it, the transmitter lock button sets it to default, while unlock changes the options? Does the LED give any feedback?

So to go from a feature option 1 to 2, press unlock once?

Also, if I get all screwed up, how do you reset unit back to default?

Thanks,
Matt
