So after recently troubleshooting my older Viper 5101 remote start and key-less system I established that something was wrong inside the box and sent it back to the factory for repair.

It came back today with a ticket that said several relays were replaced and it passed all it's benchmarks.

So, I installed it back into the car, and paired the remote again. It locks and unlocks fine as it should, parking lights flash, and the valet key responds correctly.

However, when I perform a remote start, the car follows proper procedure, starts fully, then dies just as the idle begins to fall to, well, idle..   About 4-5 seconds of runtime. It then performs a restart 2 more times before finally giving up.

It sounds as if it's holding the starter on a little too long also, so if I were starting the car, I would let off the starter about .5 or even a second earlier.

The box was returned labeled "Virtual Tach - Automatic" which tells me it was probably set up for an Auto vehicle, which i have, and to use virtual tach instead of a physical wire to a voltage sensor.

I tried a tach learn process I read online where you turn the car on with the key, then press and hold the valet switch until the led blinks, but it never blinked.

It worked fine at one time prior to the relays failing inside and the repair job.

Could someone shed some light on how I might get this fixed without having to wait 2 or 3 weeks for a simple re-program appointment with the installer. I'm pretty good with electronics. I'd like to think I can figure it out.

Thanks!

Totally forgot, This is in a 2002 Honda CR-V LX. I can supply pictures if wiring if needed, or anything else!

Update. Today I tried it again with the key both in and out of the ignition to verify the immobilizer wasn't the issue. Same results.

Only on the 2nd attempt it actually let the car run, however inadvertently engaged the starter for a 3rd attempt never sensing the engine was running.

The starter is still staying on half a second too long as well.

I'm really not sure what's happening. My alternator may be starting to weaken and perhaps virtual tach isn't sensing enough charge.

Any advice appreciated.

Is the viper tach wire connected to a proper tach source?
And did you change the viper to tach and not virtual tach

My unit was setup with the Virtual tach from the start, turns out it just had to be turned off and back on.

I managed to figure out how to navigate the menus today, and went through to make sure that it was indeed set to "Auto" and "Virtual Tach ON".

After making sure other settings were where I wanted them origionaly like runtime and parking lights, etc.. I tried it again.

This time, the car started as it should, and the starter disengaged properly when it should have. The car remained running and the parking lights came on after 10 seconds or so and stayed on. I verified it ran for the preset time and turned off.

I don't think the unit was wired to a tach wire, but if it is I haven't verified it. Since virtual tach is working as it was intended I will rely on it to do the work for me until I have other issues.

The only other question i might have is whether I can add a 2 way remote to this system without having to manipulate anything under the dash. It came with (2) 1-way remotes. I'd kind of like to get feedback for starts inside buildings and etc. Any ideas?

Thanks for the reply by the way. Was starting to think this forum is dead.
