I have a viper responder 2-way SST alarm/remote start system in my Super Duty. It's an older system, purchased new in 06 and I've transplanted it into my last three trucks when I traded into a newer truck. I do realize I have probably gotten the goodie out of this unit but it just keeps working so I am reluctant to upgrade to a new one.

The range is advertised as being up to a mile, which I've never seen but I used to be able to start the truck from close to a half mile away. This range has dramatically diminished over the last year and I'm just curious why. I now have to have the truck in view and the range is about 100 yards max..

Any suggestions?

Ya'll think replacing the 2-way remote would help or just retire this one and spring for a new one? I looked for some sort of range extender for the truck but didn't find anything..

Thanks.

You basicly have three componets, the remote, the antenna, and the brain. It would be just swapping out one part at a time to see which one is the issue.
Unless you have spare parts on hand might as well upgrade.
I have a spare antenna I could send your way. It has a date code of 10I on it.

That is true... Naw, I don't have spare parts so swapping parts isn't a possibility.. I'll eventually just buy a new one I guess... Or just live with the reduced range... I was kinda hoping for an easy fix because its been so damn reliable all these years...

I imagine it's just age, I don't know...

Thanks for the offer of the antenna. I think it's more likely the remote. It is used 10-15 times a day to RS or unlock it so it's been used ALLOT for many years.

Appreciate the reply.

Just read you post on this install. Hopefully an upgrade won't be as challenging. posted_image

LMAO, You got that right!!!

First install in the Dodge was a bitch having never installed one before.. the second truck (F150) and this 2011 F250 were much much easier 😉
