I have to hook up an Excalibur alarm and the customer would like it to be hooked up to a different battery from the main.

As long as I properly ground the battery and run a wire to the altermator for recharging purposes everything should be ok?  The current sensing option should not work on this setup correct?

what do you think of Omega alarms.  I my boss usually gets JTI   posted_image

I've been an Omega Research dealer since 1995. Excalibur is my main alarm brand and I've had few problems with the equipment. Great tech support too.

The Excalibur alarm has a 9V battery back-up on the alarm brain. This back-up powers the alarm, sensors, and siren in the event that the car battery is disabled.

There is no need to install an alternate car battery and integrate it in the charging system. It's more headache than it's worth.

Replacing the 9V once a year is sufficient maintenance for the back-up on the Omega. It also gives you another opportunity to sell a previous customer. You can offer a free battery replacement and while they wait mention new products, offers, (blah blah blah) they might be interested in.

Another option is to use a 3rd party siren with the battery built into the back of it for backup as well.
Several companies offer that option.
