So I had a customer ask me the other day about smart start, but I am not an authorized dealer and can't activate it, can I activate the drone mobile devices without being an authorized dealer? might end up doing the customers whole fleet so may need to activate multiple devices. also how is the latest drone mobile? I would hate to recommend something without some advice first. are there other options and if so can I get info on them?

What features are you looking for?
https://www.crimestopper.com/products/security/security-systems/smartphone-remote-start/tele-connect First year is included. Cheapest renewal option I have found. This is for digital systems only though, so make sure what ever you are connecting it to is on the compatibility list.

seems pretty good from what I am reading, so a couple more questions, if I use say a fortin or Dball2 with an RF kit, T harness (or just straight hardwire on a compatable vehicle) and this unit it will be the equivalent of smart start at a much cheaper price? also does this require dealer status to activate or can I or the customer activate it ourselves?

Drone doesn't require authorization to activate it. You can make a dealer login no problem.

dswift,

i am also curious on this, i occasionally do remote starts on the side, and basically either do compustar, or code alarm, i made an account no problem with idatalink, so is compustar, (or drone) pretty lenient with almost anyone signing up? i was tempted to make an account the other day, but I thought they verified you working for a company, i used to work at a place before, now this is my side gig.
