I am a newbie, this is my first attempt at installing an alarm/remote starter. The alarm is made by Impact.  The car is a 1998 Ford Escort ZX2.  I got wiring diagrams for it from bulldog security and this website also.  On my alarm I have 2 door trigger wires a Positive and a Negative.  Do I need to hookup both of these?   Where and how. Please Help.

Thanks krazy_cooter

soon2bealarmtec has no idea what he is talking about. He thinks you are referring to door locks.

You only need to use one of those wires. Just tape off the unused wire.

The info I can find for a 98 ZX2 door trigger says:

Door Trigger / PURPLE / White / Negative / Green Plug In Driver Kick Panel

So you'd use the negative door trigger assuming this info is correct. As always test it first never just take somebodies word for it because your the one who will be paying for it something gets toasted.

And uhh yeah as the other guy mentioned disregard that door lock stuff..Wish he was my alarm tech ;)

I looked at the wiring info under vehicle information and they are saying the wire is supposed to be RED / wht (-), located under the fuse panel.  I don't see any wires under the fuse panel.  However, I pulled the door pin switch from the driver side door and it does have the PURPLE / white wire.  How can I test this to make sure?  Sounds like to me you are on the right track, NowYouKnow.

Thanks again, KrAzY_CoOtEr

Use the wire that is labeled negative door trigger. The wire that you want is the one that turns the domelight on, not just the wire that is at the drivers door pin. In order to find the wires you need either a Digital MultiMeter(preferred, also known as DMM) or a test light(preferable circuit safe).
