Installing a viper 4706v on a 2003 lexus es300, in the wiring diagram for trunk release it says to use the "5-wire" method. However I am trying to determine if the car has a negative or positive trunk polarity/release because there are diagrams for each type. Can someone help with this question and let me know how to wire this up?

Thank you,

Mike

Your Viper has only a (-) Trunk Release Output as shown below :
RED/WHITE (-) 200mA TRUNK RELEASE OUTPUT

The only info I can find for your 2003 ES300 is this :
TRUNK RELEASE     WHITE/BLUE (5-WIRE)     IN DRIVERS KICK PANEL

Here is a link to the relay wiring diagram from Bulldog Security :
https://diagrams.marktoonen.nl/DOWNLOADS/17044_ES300_5-WIRE%20TRUNK%20RELEASE%20DIAGRAM.pdf

A few notes :
You need a 30/40 Amp SPDT Bosch style relay with 5 wire harness.
You need an inline fuse holder with 10 Amp fuse.
You will use the top diagram. Your relay harness wire colors / positions will probably not match the diagram.

Basically it will go like this using relay pin numbers :
Relay Pin 85 to Viper RED/WHITE (-) 200mA TRUNK RELEASE OUTPUT
Relay Pins 86 and 87 to +12V constant through the 10 Amp fuse
Relay 87a to the cut WHITE/BLUE wire IN DRIVERS KICK PANEL going towards front of the car
Relay Pin 30 to the cut WHITE/BLUE wire IN DRIVERS KICK PANEL going towards rear of the car

Soldering is fun!

1N4004 diode across 85 and 86, band to 86.
Or say goodbye to the 24 pin plug on the Viper.

howard, if you are using a diode from 85 to 86, which is a negative to a constant power source....is that going to be a problem? I don't understand much about diodes...so i apologize in advance. thank you. According to the diagram...i am fusing 86&87 with 12v constant and 85(-) is the trunk wire from the unit.

The diode stops back feed, around 200 volts when the relay shuts down, it can destroy the circuits above, also known as a quenching diode.
Well worth spending a few cents.
