I installed a dball2 with a D2D connection to an avital 4105 into a 2004 malibu base. I have the latest gm7 v4.00 firmware (flashed multiple times throughout my trials to 'make sure') and have it wired as a type 2 according to the standard install instructions (not rsr or rxt) at https://www.directechs.com/VehicleCompatibility.aspx?p=-1&v=1404&ps=1&s=0&c=0&pr=-1

I have no problems programming the dball2 with the key on instructions listed in that doc. This car did not come optioned with keyless so I do not have an original remote so (according to those instructions) I hit the programming button on the dball2 5 times to exit. Everything bahaves great up to this point. When I hit a button on the avital keyfob, I see the dball2 flash orange like it should acknowledging the d2d command, but the car does not respond accordingly. Instead the yellow theft light on the dash flashes.

In the drivers info center thing, theres an option for security under the menu key, with Passive and RKE as the options. I've tried both, factory resetting the dball2 for good measure.

Am I missing something? Are the CAN commands locked out at pin1 of the obd2 port? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

What color was your keyless data? Tan/white or green?

Pin 5 is brown/white and i'm using it for the parking lights like the doc says (so I know I'm on the right connector).

But the keyless data pin 12 is empty on my car. Nothing I've found covers this problem :/

The car didn't come with factory keyless so this method won't work. You will need to hardwire lock, unlock, disarm and trunk from the 4105 to the car.

After you asked that question it kind of dawned on me that it may be a necessary connection/wire.

For the sake of not sounding like a complete idiot and self-preservation, let me give a quick backstory. I previously installed a Clifford alarm in this car a few years back (I had found all the individual wires and had no issues). I only went down this route because we wanted to add remote start. I was told I that when I installed the Clifford I had "done it wrong, everything is a 'can' command now". "You use the dball and you only hook up the wires you need". "Get the dball2 and a remote start from directed with a d2d interface and you'll be set". Obviously there was a gotcha in my case.

At this point, is remote start possible for this vehicle, or should I just rip out the avital and dball and plug the clifford back in? (I left the original clifford harnesses 'abandoned' in place).

Thanks again for your help
