My friend has a 2010 Toyota Corolla S. She really wants a remote start and everywhere she has been has quoted her a really high price that just isn't affordable to her at the moment. Since she's my wife's friend I figured I could help her out.

I found a kit on Amazon for remote start that supposedly uses the stock fobs (so she doesn't have to carry new/extra) by simply clicking the lock 3 times.
It's this one:
Amazon: MPC remote starter

It's by a company called MPC. Is something like this worth it or more headaches in all honesty? I have an Avital keyless on my truck that I installed. My wife's 07' Solara has an Avital remote start (though they didn't hook everything up. I can't find the valet switch or when you unlock/lock it doesn't beep the factory system) but it's been fine for 10 years so she's OK with that not doing it... I know Viper makes systems as well.

For my friend I think just a simple remote start nothing fancy in terms of 2 way remote telling the temp or anything of that nature. Just remote start and that's it.

Would the above be all that is needed for her car or is there something better that I should look at for her?

Thanks much,
-Nigel

I would recommend this piece. It is a T-Harness installation so most of the work is literally plug and play. Also Crutchfield offers tech support if needed.

That looks good!

I see that it states you need a Fortin FLU-100.2 to update the system but the one reviewer stated that it's only needed if you want to program things outside of the standard remote feature... Does this hold true? I can't imagine what else to program other than just having to push the key fob button 3 times to start the car. I wouldn't think she would need/want any other features other than the car starting.

Thanks,
