2008 santa fe, 5305 + DB3, Redundance

2008 Santa Fe 3.3l US version, chip key
Viper 5305
DB3 already programmed (403.HKHT1 3.17)

New to the forums and a first time install. I am a bit confused as to what all the dball3 does for the 5305. I believe for my app it helps to work door locks and bypass starter lock.

Of course I received very little intel for install. A print out of the db3 which shows I need the high can, low can, four ems lines, pink ignition and d2d. So I assume the rest of the nest of wires do not apply and can be unpinned. Is this right?

   As for the 5305, does the use of the db3 mean that I no longer need to wire the 5305 completely? Things like door lock input/output? Does the db3 control starter function from the vehicles CAN system? or will all the heavy gauge starter bypass wires need to be hooked up?

I have all the vehicle wiring charts and should have very little issue locating and soldering.

It is just unclear to me what on the 5305 unit needs to be connected and what the db3 has the ability to control. The more I search, the more confusing it gets

All of this for an Android head unit. Last time I put an Android in it cost me $2300.00 in damages by the thief. Picture a dash completely ripped apart and mangled. This time I would like to keep my Android HU and my dash. Sad part, they could have slipped it from the dash as it was not bolted in.

I'm not positive, but I believe that the U.S market 2008 Santa Fe did not have a chipped key. You can
do a simple test to see if it does. Get a 2" wide strip of aluminum foil and wrap the key head area
with 5 layers of foil. Ensure that it completely shields the entire plastic key head area. Then use
that key to try and start the vehicle. If it starts you don't have a transponder system. You could
also go to a local hardware store and get a $1.99 plain metal copy of the ignition key and try that.

The DB3 doesn't really do much for you other than the transponder bypass ( Canadian vehicles ) and supply
a Tach and Foot Brake signal. Everything else you must obtain via hardwired connections from the Viper
directly to the vehicle.

You should do a search of this site and on Bulldog Security for the wire listing for your vehicle. Use
that info and come up with a proposed wiring chart. Post the chart for Forum Member review and comment.

If it is a chip key, the learning sequence seems simple enough. If all the dball does is transponder, brake and tach... I got this. I will read up a bit more and post update on key test and install.
