I can't seem to engage the System Features Learn Routine (feature programming) on a Python 4105P.

I am installing this for a friend, and I decided to bench test the setup before opening up his truck. I quickly set it up and successfully demonstrated the start up sequence of ignition, crank, then back to ignition. I need to change the crank time and delay the crank for his diesel. To enter programming mode, you are supposed to cycle the key and then use the control button (valet) to select and set up the programming desired. The problem is that the unit's LED just continues to blink on about a half second interval. I've also tried using the key and control button to rest the system, but it responds the same way.

I tested the programming button and verified it closes its contact.

The bench setup is simple -
   - Both power lines to 12v battery pos
   - Ground to battery neg
   - Ignition 1, Ign 2, and the crank wires are connected to lamps so I can verify their operation
   - I touch Ignition 1 to battery positive to simulate a key cycle (Ign 1 is the line listed as both an input and output)
   - Hood switch line is open, parking brake line is grounded, brake is open (although I touch brake to battery pos to simulate the brake shutdown)

Am I missing something or is this unit bad out of the box? I do not have a bitwriter to program it a different way. Since it is new out of the box, the learn mode should not be locked.

Any ideas?

Thanks for anything you can suggest!

This will be installed in a 2003 Dodge Ram, 2500. Normal key.

Vehicle shouldn't matter at this point since it is on the bench though.

Thx

FYI Parking brake line is not needed for programming.

Ignition on then off. Press and hold programming button until you see the LED flash twice (putting you into menu 2). Press and release programming button 11 times, holding it in on the 11th press (this selects menu option 10, diesel delay). Press unlock on remote one time to select 15 second delay, two times to select 30 seconds, three times to select 45 seconds. Pressing unlock again will put you back at 15 second delay, pressing lock will put you at no diesel delay.

Instead of adjusting crank time I strongly recommend hooking up the tach connection. Especially in older vehicles. It's one additional wire and makes the system exponentially more reliable.

Thanks for the reply Twelvoltz.

I tried it again, just as you said, but the LED never changes, just continuously flashes at about a half second rate. No response change to either the ignition cycle or the programming button.

I keep looking at the wire list, wondering if something else has to be hooked up to program.

The Primary (9 pin) harness has an activation input. I took this as an alarm line and left it open.

The remote (5 pin) harness has a 200mA 2nd status/rear defogger output. Not sure what the 2nd status could be.

The satellite harness is all open as I took them for relay ground drivers that are not necessary for my truck.

D2D and Bitwriter harnesses are also open.

Agree with you on the Tach, but if I can't get this thing to Program, it is useless anyway.

Any other ideas?

Thanks again.

Hit unlock on remote...then try above sequence again.

You are the best Twelvoltz!

That's all I needed, just that added step before what was in the instructions!

Thanks for your help!!!
