Recently picked up a 2008 Ford Expedition Limited. I was exploring all remote start options, as my remote has 5 buttons (lock/unlock/rear glass release, rear power hatch and panic) and I’m not really looking for a system that’s gonna have an “Aux” button that I’m gonna have multiple settings for to retain those functions, if even possible.

I like the simplicity of the “OEM style” units ive found online which utilize the factory remote, pressing Lock 3 times. One even has an optional antenna to extend the range which is cool.

My question is, I watched one of the companies YouTube tutorial on installing their “plug and play” unit which needed a handful of wires connected to the Expedition simply using “T-Taps” in the ignition harness, and 2 in the OBDII harness for can bus.

He used T-Taps for all the connections. Are those all low-amp connections that are just “triggers” and don’t need to be spliced, soldered, etc?

I’m used to older vehicles where you strip the insulation, spread the wire apart, twist in the remote start wires, solder, heat shrink, etc.

Thanks!
