I went to a local shop and got a 2.2k ohm resistor and connected it and all and it didn't start. It kept going through the theft light flashing. I connected my scanner and it said "Wrong ignition cylinder data" so I reconnected everything right and the light went out, car started and all's fine now but I can't find the right resistor value anywhere online. I used a meter and it said 13.7k ohms resistance with the key in the on position. Can anyone help/confirm?

I'm doing this so my car doesn't instantly shut down after starting with my remote start.

The actual resistor value for the Passlock2 system is not the same value for each vehicle. It is similar
to the older VATS system, which had 16 different resistor values. Not sure how many different values were
used with Passlock2. Personally, for Passlock2 vehicles, I use the iDatalink ADS TBSL-PL bypass module.
It handles the Passlock2 bypass function via DATA through the J1850 wire at the OBD2 port. Very easy
installation, very easy programming and very reliable for a remote start application.

That being said, if you wanted to do the more direct, old style bypass with relays and a resistor, you should
review this Directed Tech Tip. It steps you through how to accurately measure the Passlock2 resistance value
and shows diagrams of the relay wiring required. Here is a link : https://www.the12volt.com/installbay/file.asp?ID=1206

I got 13,700 ohms when the key was on.

Do I just get a 13k ohm resistor with 10% tolerance?

Was the test done with the Yellow wire cut and measured in accordance with the Tech Tip?

The resistor value must be very close to the measurement. I would "create" a resistor using
several resistors with Gold bands ( +/- 5% tolerance ). If you bought the DEI 652T VATS
resistor kit, you could combine the 11.8k and the 1,870 ohm resistors in series to come up
with 13,670 ohms. Verify it with a DMM but 13,670 is close enough to 13,700 to work.

Yes that's how I got it. I was thinking a 13k

Well, 13k ohms puts you just outside of 5%. I have heard that staying within 3% is preferred.
It's your car, so give it a try. Remember that these resistor values can vary with temperature,
so it might start every time in the summer but have issues during cold weather. The DEI 652T
kit is under $5 and comes with Gold tolerance band resistors. I would definitely solder all
those connections.

Just ordered that kit. It will be here Saturday. Will return with results.

How hard is it to wire in the keyless entry and trunk function and parking lights/horn on this car? (All from the DEI remote starter)? Is it as easy and splicing into the wires going into the BCM?

Your car is similar to many GM vehicles from that era. Not that hard but you will need some parts.

If your car came with Factory Remote Keyless Entry, you have Type A door locks and must convert the R/S's (-) Door lock outputs to (+) signals. If it didn't come with RKE you have Type C door locks and will need relays to interface with the cars door lock wires. The easiest way to do this is with a DEI 451M Door Lock Module. It will handle either door lock system. Available on EBay for under $10.

The cars Trunk Release requires a strong (+) signal. You will need a 30/40 Amp SPDT relay with harness and an inline fuse holder with a 10 Amp fuse to wire this up using the R/S (-) Trunk Release signal. This site has relay signal polarity change wiring diagrams to assist, if needed.

The Parking Lights need a (+) signal. The DEI R/S unit can handle this by inserting the supplied jumper ( or fuse ) properly for a (+) Parking Light output.

Here is a link to Bulldog Security for their wiring info on your car :

I'm guessing that the Paslock2 bypass was handled by the resistors in the 652T kit?

I'm just now about to attempt the bypass. Hopefully it works...and yes, I'm using that kit.

Still have to do the bypass with that kit. I'll try it in a few minutes here.

Can I just use standard relays instead of the 451? My stepdad has some car relays and doesn't want my wasting more money on parts

The 451M is a nice module but not mandatory. You can use relays.
Does the car have EKE? The relay diagrams are on this site.

Yes. It already has remote keyless entry.

Alright, Soo it looks like I'm using standard automotive relays for this.

What else do I need for them for lock/unlock/trunk? Fuse? What exactly?

RKE makes your job easier with Type A locks.

Three relays wired with this (-) to (+) polarity conversion diagram at top of page :
https://www.the12volt.com/relays/page1.asp

One will use R/S (-)Lock input and connect to the cars (+) Lock wire.
One will use R/S (-)Unlock input and connect to the cars (+) Unlock wire.
One will use R/S (-)Trunk Release input and connect to the cars (+) Trunk release wire.

All can be supplied with one +12 Volt constant connection fused at 10 Amps.

If you have three 1N4004 or 1N4007 diodes, you can add them to the relays to protect the DEI R/S (-) 200m
a outputs from the relays coil collapse pulse. Add the diode across Relay Pins 85 to 86 with the band towards Pin 86.

Do they need their own separate constant and fuse?? What if I don't use a fuse? None of mine have popped yet....

And I don't know which wire is my trunk release

You only need a fuse if you smell smoke and the car stalls. Of course it's too late then to add a fuse.   posted_image

It's always best to add a fuse to protect things. One fuse and then a 3 way split going to each relay. You will only be energize one relay at a time so 10 Amps is adequate. It's a lot of wires with many connections, so take your time and keep it neat.

The (+) Trunk release wire is noted in the Bulldog Security wire listing. Use your meter to verify all wires. With the Trunk wire you will see a 1 second (+) pulse when the trunk is popped.

It doesn't say which plug (purple, brown or blue) the trunk release is in

You can use your Digital Multi Meter to probe the Black/White wires at the BCM until you find the correct one or
you could just run the Trunk Relays' output to the Trunk Release Switch in the car and make the connection there.

Trunk Release    BLACK/WHITE (+)     AT BCM OR TRUNK RELEASE SWITCH

Hey...

I've got lock and unlock working fine with relays. I also have the trunk release hooked to another relay and it triggers when I ground the other terminal with my power probe. All good.

Problem: when I press the "ready remote" button or auxiliary made for opening the trunk or silent mode, it just does silent mode and I can't get it to ground out the trunk release?

Fixed it, my crimped on connector for the relay wasn't making good contact with the wire.

All is good!! Everything works perfectly and I got the valet button and on/off switch mounted. Also, car is back together and good to drive! Thanks to all that helped

New question(s).

How do I make it so my car will lock when remote started? and how can I make my headlights turn on at night when remote started?

I'm also completely unable to find which wire behind my climate control goes to the rear defroster. I don't know what color to use

Can't help you there. I have no sources of info that provide the Rear Defrost wire.

Perhaps someone with DirectWire can help with that.

Getting the R/S system to turn on the vehicles Headlights when remote started when dark can be a bit involved. That vehicle does not have that feature so the ambient light sensor would have to be added after-market. Here is the info on the vehicle wire :
Headlights    Dark BLUE (-)    AT HEADLIGHT SWITCH

You do have the R/S controlling the Parking Lights during remote start engine run time and door / trunk operation.

Alright...I have parking lights setup already I guess I can live with what.

What about locking the doors when remote started?

How do I make it so my car will lock when remote started?

Not sure if this will do exactly what you want but try changing the 24923B's Menu 1, Feature 2 to Option 1. It's called Ignition Controlled Door Lock.

I'll try it but right now I have ignition controlled unlock which unlocks the doors when I turn the key off....not sure I want it to lock the doors when I'm turning the key
