Hey all, I'm an automotive mechanic in Houston, BC, Canada. I've only done remote start installs on friends/family vehicles, and have only ever used directed products (usually an Avital 4103 or similar with a DBALL2). However, I no longer have access to the directed website now that they've gone to their dealer system, rendering my xkloader2 useless.

I'm looking at putting an idatastart HC1151A into an 06 K2500 Duramax. Looking over the idatalink website, I'm not sure if the module with communicate over serial data on it's own for lock/unlock control, and security bypass for the remote start functions. Is it as simple as programming the module over idatalink, plugging it in, and then doing the vehicle programming procedure? Or am I going to need an RSA-GM1 or is that something that's integrated to the HC1151A? Thanks

***Edit- I now see the RSA-GM1 is the firmware needed for most mid-00s GM vehicles***

The HC1 aka HC1151A is an "all in one" system. Think of it as a DB-all-3 and a Viper4105 all in one. It comes with two
5 button remotes that have a 3,000 foot one way range.   For your application ( 2006 Chev 2500 AWD diesel ), you will need
to flash the RSA-GM1 firmware on to the unit using the optional ADS-USB cable. You will also need to register an account
with ADS to access the WEBLink site. The specific install guide info for your truck starts at page 244 of 614 in the #39696
guide.

You will need an extra 30/40 amp SPDT relay with 30 amp in-line fuse for ACC2. With the diesel engine, connect the Tach
input wire to the White Tach wire at the connector on the back of the instrument panel.

The J1850 Data connection to the trucks Purple wire at the OBD2 port will handle the trucks alarm, locks and Passlock2 bypass.

Soldering is fun!
